Well the musicians are all top knotch... you can’t argue with Sly and Robbie or Mick Taylor or Knopfler..
But for me this album doesn’t work well due to the beginnings of 80s production and I don’t listen to it.. it sucks when you have the songs and the musicians and it doesn’t work...
Union Sundown is a personal favorite... Jokerman, License, Seeetheart..all great
I think there was an amazing album to be made from these songs and others from these sessions like Blind Willie Mctell (how do you leave that out?).. I just don’t think they got there
Fortunately the outtakes have circulated for years as “Rough Cuts” and that’s a great tape!
Word is the new Bootleg Series 16 will focus on these sessions...it will be essential
Bob brought the songs..they just didn’t dress them up right
