Streamed all of the Written In Their Soul: The Stax Songwriter Demos boxset.

Lots of interesting early versions of songs here.  Was thinking it would be worth buying, but not sure about 90 bucks for a 7 CD that may or may not be something I would routinely listen to.

Kinda wish there was a digital version with access to the info on each song

Are you assuming Shakira likes steak tacos because she's latina?

not assuming that, but if she eats red meat i'd be willing to bet that she would have like these ones.  the marinated flank steak was simply excellent, and we had some really tasty homemade toppings (mango salsa, guac, fermented habanero hot sauce, black beans with cumin seeds, etc.).  cheese and tortillas were store-bought, tho :(

i was living in Ecuador when this album came out, and it was HUGE.  you couldn't go out to a discoteca without hearing "donde estas corazon" at least twice during the night.  she went from a complete unknown to playing the huge soccer stadium in Quito (i wanted to go but for some reason missed out, still regret it).  anyhoo, it's an album i've listened to a million times and is indelibly associated with a formative time in my life (first time out of school, first time in a foreign country on my own, learning a new language and culture, etc).  hearing it again last night open the ol' floodgate o' memories.

My son is making me listen to the VU album Squeeze (on YouTube)

I actually think it sounds pretty good so far…kind of a logical continuation of Loaded’s Grateful Dead vibe

I have the utmost respect and admiration for your musical tastes and knowledge... but grateful dead vibe. Get outta here!

I think they became a bit hippy like on Loaded…and even jammy (listen to the 2 disc version)

Phish even covered Loaded at one of their Halloween shows…

And remember they had spent a reasonable amount of time in San Francisco in the late 60s….

Ever seen pictures of the VU around 69? They definitely ditched the all black look.

But by vibe I don’t mean influence…just that I hear a bit of a GD vibe on Loaded

YMMV and maybe it’s a reach but that’s my opinion

If nothing else, Oh! Sweet Nuthin’ is absolutely prime Grateful Dead jam band sound and vibe - in the best way
