930 vs. Recher- how do they compare??
« on: October 03, 2005, 01:04:00 pm »
I've never been to the 930 club. I've been to the Recher numerous times. How do they compare?

 Thanks

oh my god.... you're telling me that you would rather see

Death Cab For Cutie, the Black Crowes, Ween, Tracy Chapman, the New Pornographers and Liz Phair at the 930  than Victor Wooten, Rusted Root, Buckethead, English beat , Yellowcard and Fear Factory at the Recher???  psshh!!!!

you have to leave the performance space to get food at the recher.  you pick up food mere feet from the stage at the 930 club.

 BUT....

there is no place to shoot pool immediately adjacent the 930 club.  you can play billiards as long as you'd like in the bar next door to the recher.

so i guess there you have it, it all depends on whether you care about culinary convenience or sinking the 8 ball.

It depends on why you are going.  If you are going strictly for the music, I recommend you try to catch the show at the 9:30 Club if you can.  Recher is usually packed, shoulder to shoulder, which makes dancing and just general movement difficult.  9:30 club has tons of space, lots of bathrooms and bar service in every corner.  Sometimes you might not have the option though, as bands don't always play both venues.

I prefer the 930 for the sightlines and better bar service.

really??? the last few shows i have seen at the recher (secret machines, BRMC to name 2) have been VERY sparsely attended.

maybe other shows are more crowded but my experience is that the recher is usually empty and easy to jump right up front, leave to get a beer and jump right back up front in like less than 2 minutes!!!

   hmmmmm

The difference?

Recher is filled with unhip blockheaded rednecks with mullets drinking $3 domestics.

9:30 is filled with unhip self-important lawyers with too-short hair drinking $6 domestics.

I'm not sure which has a higher kilt proportion.

 Choose your poison.

If a show is sold out at either venue you can expect this.

For geographic reasons, 9:30 is the club of choice. Though I must say that neither host many bands that interest me. I've been to the 9:30 only twice this year, and the Recher only twice in my life.

Well, first the 9:30 has a balcony.  So you can be above the fray as it is sometimes.

Next, the sound system is better at the 9:30.

The backstage area is far superior at the 9:30, this comes into play when all the band's excess gear is packing the Recher vs. out of sight at the 9:30.

Food choices at the 9:30 are better.

Parking, about the same though more free options at the Recher.
