9:30's acoustics are horrid. Recher isn't much better though. Both have shitty barriers between the crowd and stage. 9:30 is way too big too. 930 is closer to me and usually has better bands, although between the two the best I've been to was at Recher (ETID). I never buy food at shows and I'm too young to buy beer so those don't really factor in for me.

Whoever ETID is is one of the greatest bands of our time. Please stick around and tell us about more new music!

what shows do you go to?  i'm sure staph can enlighten everyone as to the rationale (should be obvious-moshing or at band's request), but i would think that most shows at 930 do not have a barrier (same with recher), unless you consider the stage being 4 feet (or so) above ground to be a barrier.

a couple years ago, pre-sonar/rams head live, the recher actually got a lot of decent bands there (it wasnt on the level of the 9:30 club, but when you live near towson).....now, it mainly metal bands and stuff like that

Living in the Baltimore area, I go to the Recher to save a drive to DC. It's been a good venue as I've seen the White Stripes, BRMC, Interpol, Elliott Smith and others there, but it's only as good as the act performing.
