SLOAN NEWSLETTER
 Vol. 3, Issue #1
 June 26, 2003

 LONG HAVE YOU WAITED...
And now the patience of the Sloan fan is duly rewarded!

The new album ACTION PACT is a reality. It's currently scheduled for TUESDAY AUGUST 19th, and barring acts of God, you'll be able to buy it in stores then.

In the meantime, you may already have heard the first single "The Rest of My Life". The radio stations in this country, seem to really really like this song, we do, and now we're pretty sure you will too. If you haven't heard it yet, visit the one-page site set up for the new album at Sloan's "home away from home" website:

Speaking of Canadian bands...it's kinda funny that Blue Rodeo is big enough in Canada to headline (with the Jayhwaks and Kathleen Edwards supporting) a place big enough where the likes of Peter Gabriel and Def Lepard are also playing separate shows...yes they are so unheard of here that they play Iota...

I liked Sloans debut album, Smeared, but didn't like their most rcent album at all. How is the stuff in between, stylistically?

Bless you, Kosmo, for posting this info.

 Aug 19, Aug 19, Aug 19.

By the way, the new Fountains of Wayne, "Welcome Interstate Managers" is fantastic.  I thought their last 9:30 show (in April?) was awful, so I'm pleasantly surprised.  It's an especially fun summer album.  Check out "Little Red Light" and "Stacy's Mom."

Rhett, don't know if you'd like the 'in between' albums.  I think they're similar in overall genre -- maybe they've gotten slicker as they've had more money.  And I so love Sloan that I think they're all great.  Someone with more discerning tastes will have to fill you in.

i'm a huge sloan fan, and i think that their albums in between smeared and pretty together are so much better than both albums. pretty together was an okay album. twice removed and one chord to another are brilliant. between the bridges is my favorite.

i like the new song and i can't wait for them to tour again. the new album is supposed to be more rockin than pretty together, which is good to hear.

Why do you think the FOW show sucked? I too was there and would have to agree with you, despite liking their first two discs.

I don't know -- it was a weird show.  I love their first album, and Utopia Parkway is good.  I've seen them live before and they were better live than on record (as is so often the case).

That last show, though -- they didn't seem to be into it at all, so it was very flat.  It was the first show of their short pre-album release tour.  Maybe that had something to do with it -- they hadn't rehearsed, they were just off some grueling recording sessions, one of them went through a bad breakup.  Not sure of the reason, but it was 'off' enough for me to think they'd lost the magic.

New album proves me wrong.  Luckily.
