To those already mentioned, I would like to add:

 Ambulance Ltd. LP
The Blueskins - Word of Mouth
Hope of the States -The Lost Riots

There are a lot of important releases still to come out this year... Including albums from my two favorite bands (Idlewild + Interpol).

Jeez, just when I realize I'm going into debt buying cds, I still need to go get some more (from reviewing everyone's lists)
 Air
 Snow Patrol
Anything else was produced late 2003 with promotion in this year.
 What about Damien Rice?

I spent the early part of 2004 obsessing over 2 late bloomers from 2003:

TV on the Radio ~ Young Liars EP
The National ~ Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers

2004 Releases that have really captured my attention:

 Dandy Warhols ~ Black Album
 Icarus Line ~ Penance Soiree
Pixies ~ Wave of Mutilation (I hate to put a comp on here, but this one??s so good I??ll make an exception)
Pearl Jam ~ Live Acoustic @ Benaroya Hall (I??ll bring all you hipsters back around eventually!   ;)  The band and E.V. have never sounded better. Contains GREAT versions of the Ramones ??I Believe in Miracles? ?? Dylan??s ??Masters of War? - J Cash??s ??25 Minutes to Go? )
Blueskins ~ Word of Mouth (Thx Hannah!)
Joel R. L. Phelps & the Downer Trio ~ Customs

2004 Releases that I need to spend more time with
 Franz Ferdinand
 Snow Patrol
TV on the Radio ~ Desperate Youth?

& At year??s end, I??ll be very surprised if these don??t make my final list based on what I??ve heard so far:
 Twilight Singers
 Drive-by Truckers
 Black Keys
 Interpol

Listening to this right now and I agree - it's brilliant.  I've always enjoyed acoustic Pearl Jam from their first Unplugged right through all of the benefit shows - great songwriting lends itself to be stripped down and played acoustically.  I'm with you on this one Grotty.

I get more goose bumps per song/dollar ratio from this record than all other 2004 releases combined. The version of Lukin is just jaw-dropping & when he says during the Black coda - "You try"...Wow...The crowd is amazing. I would have loved to have been there.
