The Tyde @ Velvet Lounge
« on: July 08, 2003, 12:26:00 pm »
Monday July 28, WASHINGTON DC - Velvet Lounge

And alas, Rhett, the Pernice Brothers are opening up for them at every show *until* DC, where they have no opener listed.  Last show with Pernice Bros is Phillie the night before.  Note, they're in NY together both Friday and Saturday, July 25 & 26.

Check out the website at http://www.thetyde.com/news.htm/

sssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh

 Dont tell everyone.

This band has become one of my favourites, but its the same night as D-plan at Fort Reno.

Both shows in one night are feasible if the velvet lounge isnt too busy.....

There is no opener listed yet, I wonder who they will get?

The similar sounding Brian Jonestown Massacre got the high Strung and Metropolitan. That was a great triple bill.

I hear your sssshhhhhhh.....sorry.

I don't even know them, and they don't have song samples or MP3s on their website.  Based on the AMG description, I'm not sure how much I'll like them.  But I know they're pretty hot here on the Boards.

I'd ask you to describe them a bit, but then again, we don't want to entice anyone else, right?!

when I put my ipod on shuffle I still sometimes have to guess if a song is by the Brian Jonsetown Massacre, The Dandy Warhols (2nd and 3rd albums) and the Tyde.

the singer sounds a bit like lloyd cole crossed with the strokes.....

What a terrible combination that sounds.

Actually, the Tyde is opening for the Pernice Brothers. It's almost laughable that you would suggest it's the other way around, but I will forgive you.

Yeah its easy to tell the biggest band, look at where the pernice bothers headlined, compared to the tyde.....

 iota vs velvet lounge......

When do you think they will step up to blackcats backroom bar?

Iota is a bigger venue than the Velvet Lounge, and the Pernice Brothers headlined at the Black Cat mainstage on their previous tour.

Another way to compare band popularity is to look at the Amazon sales rankings. The Pernice Brothers album is currently at #510 (after debuting around #150), and the new Tyde album is at #5750.

Well, knowing little about either band, based on the playlist of WOXY, they are about neck in neck request-wise.

Didn't mean to offend Pernice Bros. fans....my bad.  Just go with my ignorance as solace!

She talked to us while at the merch table, she was nice.  They seemed to be happy with DC because they played an apparently unplanned 2 song encore, although Markie overheard a conversation between her and the bartender and they seemed to have some problems communicating with the promoter in the days leading up to the show

Glad it went well.Hope they got their promoter snafu corrected, they've been on the road for awhile now, that aspect of touring has to be frustrating to say the least. It's not like their rich or anything, good to see they got some help at the merch table.
