Fusion Tour Bouncer
« on: October 09, 2005, 02:10:00 am »
Tell me why ladies and gentlemen, when i caught a drumstick from falloutboy the other night at the fusion tour, the bouncer made me "give it back"?  After him threatening to "kick my ass" and "throw me out", needless to say i gave it back, but really, what the hell?  9:30 club, your tight and all, but what is the matter with your bouncers?  Similar stories? share em...

after the Hot Hot Heat show in March we asked one of the roadies if he could throw us a drumstick when he was packing up.  He yelled at us and was like "no, no, no, these are the band's property."  Then the bassist walked out and yelled at him and gave us stuff.  Karma.

i was in the barricade at the end of the show, and don't remember any specific event matching this description, but maybe i just didn't see it.  when sticks/setlists/towels/etc are thrown into the crowd, people often fight over them.  when that happens, the staph at the front of the stage often step in and take whatever it is that people are fighting over.  threatening to kick your ass is inappropriate, however, and i will look into the situation.

that is not how karma works.

the staph at the club is not allowed to take anything from the stage.  if the band or their crew want to give something out, they can.  if they tell us it's ok, we can.  otherwise, it stays where it is.

tangent:  i think a lot of people's concept of being "yelled at" is a lot different than mine.

yeah i'm thinking something is missing from the FOB drumstick story...

there was already  a discussion over the passing out of setlists here and frankly I don't understand how people can get so uppidity and indigent over someone doing his job.  it's the stage crews job to clear the stage not take requestes to  pass out setlists, drumsticks, in part because it isn't thier property.  the drumsticks in particular may be custom made, etc.  if the band or it's techs want to do thats fine...

honestly, the bassplayer for HHH sounds like a right prick...

Of course people are yelling at the end of the night.  Imagine several hours of loud music, you just yell because that is the right volume.  :)

I completely understand about the 9:30 staff being unable to pass stuff out unless given permission.  This guy didn't work for 9:30, he was one of HHH's guys.  If he had just said "sorry, no can do" things would have been perfectly chill.  The fact that he was a total dick about it, and took the time to bitch about it to us was what made it suck.  I would have understood if he was trying to get out of there quickly and just blew us off.  Instead he stopped what he was doing and bitched to us.  Whatever.

Why do some bands do really stupid shit like throwing things into the crowd? Makes the already impossible task of keeping excited, giddy teenagers under control even more difficult.

Besides, you could put someone's eye out throwing a drumstick into the crowd!!!

Ninja throwing stars embossed with the band's logo?  Great tchotchkies.  Fans love 'em.

actually what happend was you in fact were fighting for it and shoving the people around you ( including young girls )to get the stick . the patron in front of you was the person who actually caught it and after it was taken from you it was given to him, because he wasnt fighting with the people around him to get it but  did infact land  his hands on it first. You were told that next time dont start fights in the club   for things that you didnt catch , however i can assure you , no one threaten to "kick your ass"those are words that havent been uttered from my mouth in the 6 years i have been working there.Im sorry that your upset but we have to take everyones safty in to consideration, and cannot allow that kind of behavior to go rewarded. good luck next time catcing something though  and hopefully you will have learned that fighting the people around you wont get you what you want....if anyone threatens to " kick you ass" again...point them out to me and ill  be happy to make sure that doesnt happen, and that the person is delt with acordingly...

VMS,
If that is the case, one time many years ago, I went to a Tonic concert at the 930 (okay, I expect ridicule for seeing Tonic - but if you could only see the way I loved them, maybe you'd understand) but anyway - after the last song they threw out the drumsticks and one smacked me square in the forehead.  Being dazed I looked up at the balcony thinking someone threw a beer bottle at me.  Then I saw two people scrambling on the floor in front of me, trying to get the stick that had just bounced off of my head.  Do you think you can help me get that one back? I used to have the welt to prove it  :D
