Discounted running shoes???
« on: July 09, 2003, 02:06:00 pm »
Not really a rock and roll topic, but I'll give it a shot...

I usually try to support my neighborhood businesses, but I've never been impressed by Fleet Feets rude and elitist attitudes, so...

I was wondering if anybody has any recommendations on where to shop for running shoes, preferably a place that might actually have sales now and them? I know what style and size I'm looking for, so any online suggestions would work equally well. The pair I'm looking for is sort of difficult to find, so I'm doubting they would be at your local Foot Locker mall store.

I go through Runners World a catalog "store".  Have lots of discounted shoes and better yet discontinued models from New Balance (they make a big order of them and NB makes more).  I also go to my Columbia, MD store Feet First, they are all runners and nice people too.

Elitist attitudes at a shoe store?  That's fucked up.

I agree with the elitist attitudes...whats worse is that those stores are so dang expensive...and they always want to analyze your feet...some people swear by it, but the last time i let them do that the shoes i bought with their reccomendation ending up giving me an injury

not too shabby

Perhaps Metro Run & Walk?  I've only been to the one near Tyson's, but they have excellent service, not sure how their prices compare.

Just buy an off brand and save yourself about $35,000.00. Research has been done time and time again, and the desinger brands that make the Jordans of the world gazzillionaires are no better than the no-name brands.

Thanks y'all. I bought a pair of New Balance 854's which go for $90 in stores for $60 off of the Holabird website that someone mentioned.

Now anybody have any good suggestions for discounted cowboy boots?

Mankie, you are wrong on this one. For the distances that Rhett runs (from the sound of it) there is no substitute for a high quality shoe.

Rhett, also check out Road Runner Sports...they offer a lot of online sales.

I know there's a lot of cheap crap on the market, but I think the point is they don't have to be designer names with $100+ price tags to be good.
It's not my opinion at all actually. I was just sharing information from a couple of articles in magazines I had read. One of the TV magazines....60 minutes I think, also did a story on the subject. They had two pairs of shoes one with a swoosh on it and one unkown brand name. after taking the shoes apart they were exactly the same product only $60 difference in price...that's an expensive swoosh if you ask me!

I own a pair of Nike's myself...but they were $10 on the clearance rack at Sports Authority.  :)
