I guess that's how fucked up the masses tastes have become. If this were 1977, Drive By Truckers would be huge, huge, huge. Not that they don't appeal to the masses anyway, nearly selling out the 9:30 Club. If they were on a major label and received the right promotion, they'd be as big as Radiohead in America.

I get Joz's point, though -- he/she's not hiding dislike for DBT, but not trashing them in a thread obviously for fans to talk about the show, etc.  I try to do the same thing -- not sure I'm always successful, but is there any need for me to dump on superchunk in a thread on them specifically, just to say "I think superchunk suck."  Now, in a thread on the best albums where a discussion of superchunk comes up, different story 'cuz we're discussing bands generally.

I happen to like a good dose of southern-fried rock now and again. I honestly have never listened to DBT, but I'll take that bet. My musical tastes are far more diverse than yours i imagine.

 I think you're being strongly influenced by something in addition to the music. DBT is much too closely related to a band like Wilco for you to love one & hate the other. (I'm not mistaking your affection for Wilco with someone else am I?)

you've brought up a good point, grotty...i definitely don't have a standard prescription for my musical tastes.  i do love wilco.  i also dig whiskeytown (although i despise the majority of ryan adams solo work), my morning jacket, rockabilly in general, et al.  in fact, i will go as far to admit that i really enjoy classic southern rock...i enjoy a good healthy dose of the allman bros., skynyrd or molly hatchet once in a while. BUT I do not care for DBT.  Call me crazy but their music is really unlistenable for me.  I think sonick put it best earlier when he referred to it as background music that you really don't take notice of (I'm paraphrasing here).
 
 Anyway, that's all I'll say about that...I'm used to this really.  My husband is a huge fan of the Afghan Whigs, whom I despise (with the exception of 1 or 2 songs), so I'm constantly defending my dislike of particular bands.
 
 btw, PBR is one of my favorite beers.
