ok, i didn't realize it was tounge-in-cheek ... more power to them then ...
i'm always kind of surprised when bands who center their music around really weighty, serious things do tongue-in-cheek stuff ... seems like it kind of undermines their cause ...
i guess there needs to be a happy medium between ween and emo, but it just rings a little false to me.
take Against Me! ... one of my friends from high school is their drummer, and they really are a great band ... but often it seems like they couldnt give a shit about the anarchist stuff they're spewing, so if they couldnt give a shit about it, why are they doing it to begin with? they write a song about not wanting beer to be the life of the party, then they get drunk ... huh?
same thing with an emo band like MCR, why be ironic and tongue-in-cheek when your whole approach to music is about grieving and heavy stuff? if its a joke, then who are they making fun of? themselves and their fan base? i'd place a pretty large bet that the majority of kids watching that video take it seriously.
and no, i have not heard anything other than that song, but it sounded just like story of the year and their ilk ...

oh, I definitely found the video hilarious too, but is that the point?
it seemed very very sincere, like most screamo.
i can't say for sure, but based on what i know of the band, i'd say the video is 100 percent tongue in cheek.
they definitely seem like they have a lot of energy, but a "sound unlike most of what's out there"? really? they sound like almost any other emo-core band out there to me. why are they different?
have you listened to anything other than that song? they've got two albums out. they are different because they don't sound like every other band out there. i'm not good with labeling music so i won't use words like screamo or anything-core, mostly because i don't have a clue what they mean.
their live show is intense. their lyrics are creative. the themes are fairly dark, but the music is often upbeat and bouncy. their drummer kicks ass. they maintain a sense of humor about themselves and the music. it creates a different vibe. maybe i'm hearing things other people aren't, but whatever.
i understand that the core audience for this is middle/high school outcasts, but still, it's by far the cheesiest pile of dung i've seen all year.
additionally, have you felt alone? rejected? confused? anxious? wrong? wronged? confused?
i sure have.
just because the people that buy the music are mostly from one demographic doesn't mean that that is the intended audience. even if it is, that doesn't mean that others can't enjoy the music. if you don't like it, don't listen to it. more cheesy dung for me that way.
i think part of the problem is that you don't get the joke, though. not everything is meant to be taken seriously. [/b]
