I have to fight back the "of course I knew you were being sarcastic" tone, here.  I actually wasn't sure.   I wanted to hear a "Clutch are really a bunch of pretentious a-holes...they treat people around them like crap and trash the dressing room" story.  Oh well.

I did not go tonight, obviously, but I have seen them several times before and I have always had a blast.  However, I've never actually listened to them on record.

 they should strap webcams on the staph at clutch show for a unique perspective...

The sound has drifted over the past fifteen years from a hardcore first record to bluesier stuff for the last few.  The record that I think is the best is closer to the earlier stages - the self-titled one, when they were caught in the transition.  I've played it more than anything else I've ever owned.  
 I started the thread but I have to admit, didn't go last night, as friends forced me to attend tonight's show in Philly instead.
 Great shows every time, in part because you never know whats going to be played.  One night they will play 10 "new" songs that will never make it to the recording studio, the next they go with the crowd favorites.  From fifteen years of live Clutch experience, I can tell you that the DC set list from last night will be absolutely different from tonights.
 Thanks to the club for having them every time they tour.

I've seen them play live maybe 50 or more times and I can tell you they've never played more than a handful of new (unreleased) songs at one show. Oh and nearly all of what they play live makes it onto their recordings.

OK, a bit of an exaggeration.  I've seen them tons too.  And sometimes, when you get them right before a new release, you will end up hearing a set list that includes tons of new stuff no one has ever heard before.  There is rarely any rhyme or reason to the order of songs they play.  In some cases, I've heard them rattle off five or six new (unreleased at the time) songs in the middle of a set, or to end a set.  The last time I saw them do this was at the Starland Ballroom (6 months ago?).  And while most of the songs they play end up on record, I've heard a few that never do.
 I'm not complaining.  I'm a huge fan.  But obviously you are a bigger one.  Fifty shows in 15 (or so) years is pretty fanatical.

It is true, I do have a bit of a problem. In November I went and followed them around England with Motorhead for 9 days. Great time. Here in the U.S. I've seen them play live in 7 different states.
