 July 26 Lollapalooza Cancelled

Due to slow ticket sales and increased production costs, the promoters of Lollapalooza have cancelled the show scheduled for July 26 at Vernon Downs race track in central New York. A statement said, "Due to the costs of production versus the estimated tickets sales of 15,000, it did not make fiscal sense to play this date. Unfortunately, the venue is such that Lollapalooza would have needed to bring in additional production facilities, which made the cost to produce the Syracuse-area show significantly more than other venues on the tour." According to a report from the Associated Press, Mark Scalzo, the marketing director for Vernon Downs, said the cancellation was "disappointing news" that would have financial implications for the track and the local community. "We were excited. It's a national tour with big name performers," he said. "It would have been a big day for us, and for the local restaurants, hotels, gas stations and convenience stores."
