Got this message today from Bob Mould's website about Blowoff.  Read all the way down and I'll give more skinny:

  Velvet Lounge DC has been closed DOWN - tonight's Blowoff  show will be moving to a different venue.

 So, a friend of mine biked over to V.L. and spoke to a bartender there.  Apparently it's some sort of licensing problem, and while the 'tender maintained that Blowoff was cancelled at that venue, later he capitulated that we should call V.L. later 'cuz it might get worked out by tonight.
 
 Talk about a scare!  We thought V.L. was closed forever (no, but where will the Tyde play on the 28th?!?!?), then we started panicing over the future of Kingpin.
 
 Oh, that's it's all some crazy D.C. beaurocratic bullshit.  whew.

I hope they get to stay open...I'd hate to have to start going to backbar for my pre-concert pint(s) and have to put up with that miserable twat behind the bar down there.

Is it just me or what? He's my very favorite bartender in all of DC. The man knows his job and does it very well without any of the crap that I have to put up with with some other bartenders; and that is coming from someone who use to tend bar. Also, he's always very pleasant to me. And no, he's not hitting on me or anything like that.

Dave is one of the best bartenders in DC. If you act like a"twat", he will treat you as one. If you act like an intelligent adult, he will treat as such....

I don't drink (clean and sober 20+ years now) but I go down to the bar with my friends after shows.  The barkeep there has always been cool with us.  In fact everyone at that place seems to be OK to me.  But hen again I am an old bastard!

First of all, if he really was one of the best bartenders in DC I think he'd have a better gig than the basement of the 930....no offense to the 930 intended.
 
 Secondly, if "Two Corona's please" is acting like a twat, then I apologize for being a twat. It may be that you need breasts to get pleasant service like it is with a lot of male bartenders in busy bars. His attitude has been the same everytime I've been down there (about a dozen or so) so it's not an isolated incident I'm going from.
 
 I'm not the only one who feels the same about him...a lot of the people I know feel the same, and I've even heard other people down there make comments like..."must be his time of the month" " what an uhappy soul" "they musn't pay much here" etc.
 
 Finally, it's no big deal because there's no end of places to purchase his ware's! So if you are one of the chosen few that he is pleasant to then enjoy, and I'll enjoy a friendlier bartender at a different watering hole!
