is "q and not u" worth it?  i mean i really don't want to see the openers. if i skip this show, i can fight and live to see another day (or show) w/the money i'm saving.

Q and Not U were great last night! Mary Timony was OK. She had a couple of up-tempo songs that I liked. I missed Decahedron.

agreed.  the double encore/second encore combination was killer.  decahedron were alright...sort of a punk/metal thing.  mary timony was better up close where the fans kept me cool, than in the back where the temp must have been 90 degrees.  hey pollard, what did your friend think of our hometown heroes?

From the songs that I've heard, they aren't that loud and aggressive. Of course, maybe I've only heard the mellower ones. I like them and have been meaning to see them but keep missing them for one reason or another. But, I can see how they may have been only just alright. There is something missing yet from their music. A certain energy that gives it that spark they need. They are kind of smouldery but with lots of potential. Light it up, boys! (And that's coming from a non-hardcore type.     )

they were pretty fired up at the show, actually...screamy, jumpy etc.  can't complain about the quality of the performance...the music is just a little run of the mill.

I hated both opening bands, I thought Q and Not U were playing notsogood at first but made up for it at the end.

well shortly after you walked away, our all day drinking and the extreme heat meant we were both not feeling too well, and we called it a night, my second Q and not U show is proving elusive, I spent all day in the sun today, so I am thinking it is not that horrible that we left, but it does sound like it was a good show, we probably would have managed to stay had Q and not U been imminent, but Mary Timony was unbearable in those conditions

Q and not U were great.  It was heartening to see such a young crowd too.

Mary Timony was pretty lame IMO.

 Missed Decahedron.

I can't figure out how Mary Timony keeps getting booked with harder acts. She also opened for Sonic Youth about a year or so ago. Not a good fit at all. She's more of a let's sit down and relax with Rhett and Celeste type. Not bad but not exciting enough to keep your interest, especially while standing. Better left on record for those lazy days.

All I can say is, after seeing 'em at Coachella, it's so nice to be in a hometown crowd that appreciates them and sings along.

The other thing I have to say is that I hate all-ages Friday and Saturday night crowds.  There was this annoying chick (21+) who kept trying to sneak beer for her boyfriend (underage).  She got offensively drunk and they kept going through this fight/makeup/makeout cycle through the show that was a bit distracting.
