If you like Bad News...
« on: January 05, 2005, 07:24:00 pm »
No DC date announced (yet), but you can catch Modest Mouse on The OC tomorrow night!

 Modest Mouse Launch Tour

Indie rockers bring "Good News" across the U.S.

Issaquah, Washington indie rockers Modest Mouse are set to kick off a U.S. tour on January 21st in Nashville.

Although the trio -- vocalist/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green and bassist Eric Judy -- has been together for twelve years, its latest album, Good News for People Who Love Bad News, has proven the breakthrough, selling more than its three predecessors combined. Modest Mouse recently nabbed two Grammy nominations, for Best Rock Song ("Float On") and Best Alternative Album.

Not bad for an album recorded in the midst of much personal turmoil, with Brock struggling with alcohol abuse and Green leaving halfway through for a stay in a psychiatric hospital (Green rejoined the band for last summer's tour). Amid all the drama, Brock recalls, "We agreed to continue . . . And once we made the decision, it was really easy . . . I made up my mind that things were going to be better."

As for Modest Mouse's current success, Brock shrugs, "It's just the way things are -- they're good, they're fucked up. It is what it is."

The Grammys will be broadcast live on CBS on February 13th, and Modest Mouse can be seen performing on tomorrow night's episode of The O.C. on Fox.

 Modest Mouse U.S. tour dates:

 1/21: Nashville, Vanderbilt University

1/31, 2/1: Santa Cruz, The Catalyst

Yes, Alex!! couldn't remember the name..actually now that you mention it, there is a lack of blonde girls on the show...but if she represents the OC then I'm definitely living in the wrong state..

btw, is it true they are to re-name the Angels as the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim"??

nope, the reputable news organizations that have been reporting the Angels' name change have completely put their reputations on the line as an elaborate ruse. damn them!

Yeah, but don't mention it on the ESPN.com boards; they're totally committed to the lie.

The owner did get approval from MLB but the City of Anaheim filed a suit yesterday seeking a temporary injunction blocking the change as a violation of a contract the city made with the Angels back in 1996.  The case will be heard tomorrow.

There was a great write-up in the NY Times (of all places) about it:

From the NYTs article.. "A few years ago, a City Council member in Riverside threatened to sue the producers of the television show "The O.C." for its condescending portrayal of Riverside, which borders Orange County on the east"..

Yes, that and many other subtle slights to the area commonly referred to as "the 909" by folks in the OC and LA.  Anytime you hear them refer to Chino, Corona, Riverside - those are seen as slights to folks who live there, and rightly so, but I laugh everytime.

I've always envisioned starting a blog to explain to non-Southern Californians all of the innuendos used on the show that get extra laughs from those in the know, but I'm lazy.  By now, I'm sure somebody else has already done this.  I remember seeing one web site that used to explain the numerous references to indie music that Seth makes, and another about his comic book references.

Ah the life of a TV junkie.....

didn't the oc kill his wife and lives in florida now?  i still heart the image of people waving(support?) on the sides of the road in beautiful LA sunshine.  those california people make a living choosing their pleasures wisely.

the network's got a gun . . . we all see where this has come from.
