i'd post a query of what to do musically over at  Must Destroy Music Forum, they are pretty hip to the harder side of the rock in London.  They also released the early Darkness singles before they hit the big top.

The last time I was in London, I saw this guy: http://www.sidgriffin.com/ who now lives in London and does regular pub gigs. Doesn't appear to be playing any UK dates until Nov.

Whaqt I saw of him was good, but I was too busy fighting with my soon to be ex-girlfriend to enjoy the show.

London is a cool town.  It sounds like you've done all the tourist stuff, so do what I do, just walk around, pop into random pubs, drink a lot of lukewarm British ale.   Time Out is a decent weekly guide for things going on.  Spend some time getting to feel like a regular in your neighborhood, that's the way you'll really get a flavor for what's going on.

also for hipster goings-on, check out a website called Urban 75 based in Brixton.  I don't remember the exact link, just Google it.

let me know if there's anything more specific you need to know.

Make sure you get a London Broil.  Also Fodor's recommends that you eat at Wimpys.  Make sure you drink lotsa tea and say, "Tut tut..." a lot.  Ride one of those double dekker bus thingies, too.

But don't stay out in the sun too long.

You definitely HAVE to go to the Tate Modern. And if possible, you should see the Turners at the original Tate Gallery. (Turner is one of my favorite artists.) As for shows, it does look like you are narrowly missing some. But here are a few ideas:

10/9 Clinic, To Rococo Rot, etc. @  Hackney Empire
10/12 Bloc Party @  Lock 17 (in Camden!) -and- Club AC30 as Medusa recommended (If you can only make it to one of these, go to AC30.)
10/13 !!! @  The Astoria  (very convenient location)
 10/14 Seafood @ ULU (Don't miss Seafood!!)

There are some others (Razorlight), but they are sold out...

If you wanted to travel outside of London to Oxford, you could see several other bands like the 22-20s. And The Blueskins are playing a show in Nottingham.

I always try to catch at least one play while in London. You may want to check the theatre guide when you get there. I haven't looked at the listings lately because it's too painful to miss such good shows.

Perfect that you are staying near Camden. There is a lot going on in that area. The street markets alone are worth checking out. Oh! A terrific tiny venue is the  Notting Hill Arts Club . Just a hangout during the day, but at night they have shows.

And when you get there, tell Robin that you are a friend of Jaguar's.     :(   We were even talking about maybe doing some kind of a Club DC30 thing (at my suggestion) possibly with Medusa and Strange but it's not to be at this time. If we ever work it out, I'll let you all know.

You should have asked days ago and I could have asked Robin for more info or some of my other friends what's going on.

 Also, from the same source:
"The Zillions have got a residency at the Catch bar in Kingsland Road this
month, playing every Tuesday in October.  I've heard fab things about them
and they're meant to be influenced by My Bloody Valentine amongst others so
right up your street if you like Club AC30.  They are on at 9pm each week
and it's FREE to get in...and if that's not enough to tempt you, yours truly
will be manning the wheels of steel on Tuesday 19th under my Columbia Road
guise.  Hope to see you down there!
