New Wilco album
« on: March 06, 2007, 11:16:00 am »
Anyone else heard it? After a few listens I would categorize it as a welcome return to form. Multiples better than A Ghost is Born.....real music, less computers....

....cue inevitable ranting about how irredeemably shite Wilco are

I heard a few tracks, and while I was less than thrilled (maybe it would grow on me), I would agree with your assessment that it was less computer-y, which is a good thng in my book.

I listened to it all the way through the other night twice.  It starts out a bit too smooth/yacht rock-ish for me, but I kind of liked the songs near the end.  Nothing really jumped out at me and I'm not sure I would put it ahead of any other album.  I'd like to hear more of the songs live (they played Walken/Walkin and Impossible Germany) last time at the club.

They are one of my favorite bands and like one of my other favorites, Ted Leo, I am a little disappointed in their new album at first listen, but then again my expectations might have been too high.

I'm listening to it at work.  Virtually "computer" free.  Very good.  I still really love A Ghost Is Born though.

Basically anything that yuppies would listen to on yachts in the 80's.  Hall & Oates, When You Get Caught Between The Moon & New York City, etc etc.

Does anybody have this available online?  Did somebody rip the stream from Wilcoworld preview this weekend?

I miss the noisy experimental stuff.

Given your affinity for Journey, it is difficult to know whether you are being facetious or not.

no one has ever rawked the grammy's like christopher cross did in 1981, taking home record of the year, album of the year, song of the year, best arrangement and best new artist.  not to mention he also won an oscar and golden globe in 1981 for "arthur's theme," which is the song referred to above.

Apparently there is a yacht rock night in San Fran.  You should go Bede.  Do lines off the bar and then slow dance to the dulcet tones of 80's bliss.

 You can do maaaaaagic.
