Rufus Wainwright returns...right?
« on: May 26, 2007, 05:43:00 pm »
Does anyone know anything about whether Rufus Wainwright is coming back to DC and 930 for his new tour? He came by last time, but as of yet there's no word on his website. How far out does 930 usually book, announce and open sales on shows? I'm wondering if that's the hold-up or if he's really only coming as close as Charlottesville this time.

unfortunately, the answer is "it depends".  there is no hard-and-fast rule.  some dates for august and september are known, but some shows are announced just a few weeks out.

best bet is to sign up for the e-mail newsletter, that's where it'll typically be announced first (if it's announced at all...)

Shows are typically announced in other places before they're made official by the club.

Yeah, I got presale for his show in Philadelphia. But the Mann Center is huge. I definitely want to see him at 930 again if he comes. Does anybody know how the Charlottesville Pavilion is?

i'm not sure about it anymore but it used to be a dump that only local musicians in the area played.

as evidenced by their website though looks like they've really turned it around.  my friend tells me its pretty big now.

He's too big to play the 930 now. Maybe if he does a 2nd leg, but for now, I don't think so.

I remember seeing him at Merriweather as part of some travelling folk festival many years ago. He was one of the openers on the second stage. Then he stood right next to me and watched Mark Eitzel on the second stage. Can't believe he has gotten so big.

i saw him at the club when he opened for sean lennon right after sean's first album came out, so that was ... a really long time ago. summer 1998, i think? i may remember rufus saying something about it being his first show outside of new york? in any case, that sure was one of the daintiest performances i have ever witnessed.

no he's not...he played 9:30 just a year and a half ago...this was after Want Two had already been out...the only thing he's released since is the most recent record a couple of weeks ago.  i don't think he's any bigger than he was a year ago.
