Gomez, Anyone?
« on: August 01, 2004, 08:33:00 pm »
Hi All,

My first post here after reading a bit - sounds like a nice diverse forum.

I'm wondering if anyone here is going to the Gomez show at 930 on the 18th or Recher (in Towson) on the 19th.

They are an *awesome* live experience to long-time fan or first-time listeners alike.  They're a little bit folk/bluesy, a little bit electronic, a little bit Brit-pop (they are British) and a lot of rock.  They played a fantastic show at 930 back in January, don't know if any of you were there.

Website is here: http://www.gomez.co.uk/index2.htm - you can hear one of their new singles.

Hope some of you can make it to this show!

I've heard their show is great, so it's on my calendar.

I guess I have seen them 4 times.

Is it me or is there new album utter shite? It is deterring me from going, despite them being excellent live previously.

It's generally getting mixed reviews:
   split the difference

Seems to be a bit of a polarizing record.

Yeah - A friend who's a longtime fan just loves it and plays it  constantly .

 Me - I'll take  <img src="http://image.allmusic.com/00/amg/cov200/drd300/d326/d32668nxaad.jpg" alt=" - " /> anytime I need a Gomez fix.

How anoying.....

Personally, in our gun became my favourite.

I find the new one is really vapid in comparison.

Agreed - there are many songs that I couldn't even have identified as Gomez. I've wondered though if I may be judging it too harshly based on expectations....What if I had heard the same  record by some new 'hot' band?

Their live show seems a bit contrived and forced.

I find their show (both times I have seen them) hit and miss, very good moments, but also very wanky at times
