I don't remember Daft Punk being that year, but I definitely overlooked Portishead's disk.

Brighten the Corners/Pavement and Being There/Wilco are both pretty good.

Sleater-Kinney and Foo Fighters.  Shit, didn't realize "The Colour and The Shape" was 1997...I didn't get it until '99.  Then, I got it!

Hmm... OK. I went with the year on the back of the CD, and it said 1996, which is probably when it was recorded, copyrighted, etc, etc.

i dont have my itunes accessable, but i second modest mouse and built to spill, still 2 of my favorite albums ever.
