Ipod Issue
« on: October 26, 2005, 02:10:00 pm »
I have been reading the board for a while, and you guys seem to have pretty good responses to electronics issues, so here is mine, hope you can help.
When I hook my ipod up to my computer, and itunes comes up and recognizes that the ipod is plugged in (it shows the little nano icon), I drag songs into my ipod list and it says "updating ipod" and the song is put on the list, but it is not imported to my ipod.  I will even disconnect the ipod and plug it back in, and the song will appear in my itunes on my ipod list, but not on my actual ipod. I have the setting on manual updates.  The ipod has worked with another computer, and I have only tried to use this on two computers, so I haven't exceeded the limit of computers. Any ideas?

I maintain a playlist of the songs on my iPod.  To update my iPod I just drag and drop the playlist onto the iPod icon.

Yeah, I dunno either.  I can drag songs to my ipod icon and it says it is updating, but whatever I drag to the ipod icon, shows up on the ipod list on itunes but does not show up on my actual ipod.

...are the songs you're selecting copy protected?  Some newer CD's cannot be copied but I think there are some work-arouonds.  Check out other ipod threads - specifically the one about Foo Fighters recent release...there may be more info there.  iPods/nanos are causing a lot of headaches...don't feel alone!

sounds kinda like the problem kosmette was having... i know she fixed an issue by downloading the updater sw for the iPod... she google something and the solution came right up as others were having it to. if she were on im, i'd ask right now.

It is possible your USB port is failing. Try plugging the ipod into another USB port.

If that doesn't work, I would try deactivating auto-sync and moving the files manually.

ggw - thanks for the ilounge recommendation, i will definitely check it out.

As for the USB port, that could be it, everytime I plug in the ipod it says something like "USB port will perform at a reduced speed"-  When I click to see if there are any faster ones, the computer tells me no.  and the option is on manual update. If it is the USB - does that mean the ipod wont work on this computer?
