Anyone seeing Prince this weekend @ MCI?
« on: August 10, 2004, 11:22:00 am »
Who's seeing Prince this weekend at MCI?  I am very excited, but I have heard terrible things about shows at MCI.  I saw Tool there years ago and remebered the show not being terrible (although I am not a Tool fan).  They say Prince's stage is in the center of arena so everyone can see.

As far as major arenas go, I have no major complaints about MCI. It's a big place, but not as huge as other venues I've been to like the United Center in Chicago. It certainly beats the old US Air Arena (aka Capital Center).

I am interested in finding out about an after hours show.  Apparently, Prince has been having one in each city he visits.  It's going to be a great show!

I'll be there Saturday night.  Hope it's better than the Patriot Center show a couple of years back.

I'm there Friday.  I think the round configuration is going to be great and more seats will be really good.  I'm not much of an audiophile, so I can't speak much to sound issues, but I've always enjoyed MCI shows.  Patriot Center is awful; this should be a great show.

Yup, theater in the round.  I mean, I don't know if the stage is actually ROUND, but it will be in the middle and you can see from everywhere, and he'll play to all sides.

I'll be there Thursday night. A friend of mine living in Ohio said it was a great show when he saw it out there.

yup I'm going on Thursday; way psyched. Ya know we all get free copies of the "Musicology" CD just by producing a ticket ?!  Now that's the deal; I've been waiting for years for someone to do this and justify the high ticket prices.  This is going to be my 5th or 6th Prince show ... first time was way back in 1981, at the Tower theater in Philly, the tour for "Controversy".  The Time was the opening act, and the Prince show climaxed with him guitar-soloing on top of a speaker ... the famous 'ejaculating' guitar spraying out over the audience ... AWEsome !

Does anyone know what time these shows are supposed to start, and whether there is an opener?  I may try to get a ticket just before the show.

BTW, I think the whole album giveaway thing was a way for Prince to get the record to the top of the Billboard charts, since they were recorded as sales at the time the tickets were purchased -- every seat sold on the tour counts as an album sale, something Prince hasn't been able to do in probably more than a decade.

I think there's no opener and showtime is 8:00 p.m.

 PRINCE ā??MUSICOLOGY TOURā? ADDS
 3rd AND FINAL WASHINGTON CONCERT
ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 14 AT MCI CENTER

 Tickets are on sale now!

Pop icon Prince and the New Power Generationā??s coast-to-coast Musicology concert tour of North America is proving to be ā??the must-seeā? tour of summer 2004. A third and final Washington show has just been added on Saturday, August 14 at MCI Center at 8:00 p.m., following two sold-out shows on August 12 & 13. Tickets for the August 14 performance are on sale now.

Ticket demand for the Musicology tour has been unprecedented and concert dates continue to be added nationwide. Six concert dates are currently scheduled in the New York tri-state area, five in Southern California and Chicago and three in Detroit, Atlanta, St. Paul, Washington, DC and the Bay Area. Two shows are scheduled in Las Vegas, Dallas, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, Denver and Seattle.

The tour comes on the heels of Princeā??s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and his heart-stopping Grammy opening performance with multiple-award-winner Beyonce. The highly acclaimed new CD, Musicology, was released on April 20 on Columbia Records and is now available in stores.

The concert features Prince per4ming some of his most well known hits live 4 the last time and also includes music from the album Musicology. The ticket price includes the new CD and concert attendees will receive it at the show. A center-stage, in the round production allows Prince fans unique sight lines.

Prince has sold more than 100 million records and is regarded by fans and critics alike as a monumental force and influence in popular culture. During the ā??80s, Prince emerged as one of the most singular talents in the history of music, releasing a series of groundbreaking albums that both defined and captured the spirit of the times. With each successive album, Prince has shown remarkable stylistic growth and musical diversity, constantly experimenting with different sounds, topics and genres. Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied.

Each show is one long dance party with Prince supplying the music!  The production lives within the players themselvesā?¦no gimmicks, no pre-recorded music and no prisoners taken! Performing with Prince are New Power Generation band members John Blackwell (drums), Greg Boyer (trombone), Candy Dulfer (saxophone), Chance Howard (trumpet), Renato Neto (piano and synthesizers), Maceo Parker (saxophone), RAD (vocals and keyboards), and Rhonda Smith (bass).
