Lollapalooza
« on: August 02, 2003, 02:18:00 am »
Well, I just got back from said concert, and here it is in a nutshell...

(From 1-10, with comments where applicable)

The Distillers - 2 very, very scary how bad they sounded

The Donnas - 5 would have scored lower if their act wasn't so tongue in cheek

Jurassic 5 - 7 good crowd pleasing band, but didn't see much from them that any one of 5 or 6 hip-hop bands couldn't have done

Queens of the Stone age - 1 were so bad it was painful. Not only did their sound guy throttle them with bad sound, they were just straight up awful. AWFUL.  :D

I think one's impression of sound may be affected by location; I heard QOTSA from the lower part of the lawn and I thought they sounded ok.  I also found that the vibe improved as night fell and the lights came up - when Audioslave and Jane's performed.  And Incubus did a cover of Lionel Richie's "Hello."

Very good, but what was the other cover that Incubus performed? Hint: The original performer hails from D.C.

Audioslave was amazing!  I agree that QOTSA did not sound good.  I was in the pavillion over to the side, and it sounded very muddled.  I also liked The Music and Burning Brides a lot.

I just found out about Stray Kids yesterday..only because it was news that they and another K-poper from BTS knocked both Taylor and Eminem off the 1 and 2 spots on the charts

I know I'll be tuned unto Laufey with the Chicago Philharmonic at 8:50 tomorrow on Hulu.

Lizzy McAlpine and her band full of middle ages men (I think I recognized the black guy as someone who has played with Dr. Dog at the 9:30 Club) were pretty awesome.

No, just watching select acts on the Hulu stream.

I watched the Chappel Roan performance with my kid. She loved it, I though she was pretty "meh."
