She didn't play that show.

I did see her play Iota maybe seven or eight years ago. During the opener, she stood right next to me, at the bar. At no time that night did I find her the least bit sexy. Great singing voice (though she overdoes it at times), but not sexy.

Am I the only one who thinks the New Pornographers sound like crap?

Their songs on Twin Cinema seem to especially highlight their poor singing voices and the music lacks any complexity. They sound like a highschool garage band that needs more practice.
It sounds like they are trying VERY hard not to sound "overproduced."

I don't get it. Neko Case's BlackListed is a quality record, if not a little boring at times, and AC Newman's latest solo record is quite interesting.

 I think I just don't like NP's schtick.

Well he has lost some sex appeal since growing that beard. The beard was one of the reasons that we opted out of the Jammin Java show.

No one's hotter than Joe Pernice... [/b]

Best (and nearly perfect) when taken two or three songs at a time, as an entire album, Twin Cinema overstays its welcome.

There were at least a couple of other boardies who posted that their NYC show was boring. Not to mention the scads of people who were leaving the show pre-encore.

Well if all the critics love it, and all the people who rushed out and bought it on it's release day say it's good, that pretty much proves that nobody will ever dislike it. Well put.

You forgot the last part of that review:

It's simply too much of a good thing.

Also, the link was really just to point out the header of "Universal Acclaim."

Is that because you were still into dudes seven or eight years ago?

I was single, and into anything that moved me. She didn't move me.

i like "twin cinema," but i think that it's not nearly as good as "electric version," which itself wasn't nearly as good as "mass romantic." i undoubtedly like "the slow wonder" better than "twin cinema," that was a fucking great record. and of course the best record ever associated with a new pornographer is destroyer's "streethawk: a seduction." honestly, neko case gets on my nerves on this record. i gotta agree w/rhett a little bit, she just projects too much sometimes. chill out, babe.

the review on allmusic was pretty good i thought. they gave it 4.5 stars, but it seemed a pretty unenthusiastic 4.5 stars. but then again, they give everything 4.5 stars. "which is what makes Twin Cinema an endearing listen, if not a flat-out knockout." that's about how i feel.

Rodney Crowell's new album got universal acclaim on metacritic as well. Why aren't boardies raving about his album?

And Sufjan Stevens new album gets universal acclaim, and what I've heard of it would make me turn it off and turn on a New Pornos album right quick.
