you should go to the live on penn show on saturday. only three bucks. the highlights for me are de la soul and robert randolph. randolph at 9:30 club last december was probably the most fun show i've ever been to. highly recommended!

the walkmen are playing the black cat tomorrow night. i also think that is the night of Queercore, a new fun(?) dance night at the black cat. also, minus the bear are playing on sunday at the 'cat, and they're great. i haven't seen them live but i'm curious as to how they'll be.

 and happy birthday!

and what are the other folk-pop duos that are satisfying the need?

I supposed we need another flirting with indie, yet still bland enough to be mainstream rock band for you?

There have been tons of great bands from Chicago. Wilco and Robbie Fulks are two of my absolute favorites. I'm sure we could start another thread listing dozens of great Chicago artists. Cripes, half of the Bloodshot roster is based in Chicago, and they're the best label going, in my opinion.

As much as they make Chicago seem like home, I still consider Wilco as from Belleville, IL

you could go see The Liberation at Firehouse Grill in Fairfax, VA tonight with the Lime Twiggs. The Liberation are apparently, I've never seen them, a local Acoustic Punk-Ska band.

Na, Wilco sounds like boring old people's music. They could use some of those emergency heart paddles.
