Mission of Burma Rollcall
« on: October 14, 2004, 11:37:00 am »
Anyone going?  If I recall, GGW was the only one that made it out to the last 9:30 show.  Were they just as good that night as that first reunion show at 9:30 a little while back?

I thought they were as good the second time as the first.  Perhaps even better...

Unfortunately, I'm going to miss the show tonight.

i was there, too, nkotbie. i was too occupied to post my thoughts. the second burma show was at least as good as the first one. attendance was sort of meager, though, for a band of this stature.

i'm not sure if i'm going to make it out tonight. i'm not a big channels fan, and there's baseball on. plus, the makers are at the warehouse. after years of waiting for burma to play, they've now been in DC three times within two years. it seems as if they're sticking with it, and will probably be coming back again.

That first round at the 930 was pretty hot.  I hadn't heard The Oxes before and was really impressed.  Maybe I'll make it tonight.

having seen 'em last time around, and really loved them, i'm torn between my knitting circle and this show tonight.

I missed the recent 9:30 Club gig, but I'll be there tonight.

I was at the 9:30 club show this year.
 It ruled.
It was also the first time I tried Five Guys Burgers. Good place. Good band.

OK, now this is what I call a great concert! The opening band, Channels, alone made the price of admission worth it. They were one of the best opening bands I've seen in a long time. I bought their EP. As for Mission of Burma, that was one of the best performances of electric guitar playing I've ever seen, and they played their hearts out. These guys are top shelf. I'm just flabbergasted that the Black Cat didn't even come close to selling out. Those that were there seemed to really enjoy it though.

I really didn't care too much for Channels.  However, Burma was in top form.

I know Thirsty totally agrees, but god damn, ending a set with "That's When I Escaped My Certain Fate," "Max Ernst," and "The Ballad of Johnny Burma" is pure genius.  I still have a smile on my face.

Wow - Fantastic show.  Had a better time last night than at the first 9:30 reunion gig.  These guys can still rock mighty hard.  I'm a little amazed at how few people were there.  Maybe 1/2-capacity.  By the time they came back for the encore, I'd say the Cat was maybe 1/4-full. Saw Ian MacKaye in the crowd between the Burma sets.

Channels were good. I may have to pick up their EP.  I'll definitely check them out again.

Anyone have the complete set list?

I'm still in a daze over how good this concert was. I had to leave at 12:15am to catch the last train. When did they quit playing?

Man, what's wrong with me? I did NOT dig Channels. But Mission of Burma is another story. First time I've ever seen them and they were really good. Definitely would see them again.

I don't know.  I didn't really like them either.  It sounded like it could have been good, but there just wasn't an edge.
