most covered band?
« on: October 31, 2005, 02:54:00 pm »
i think i've heard more bands cover cheap trick than any other band at the club.  we hear "surrender" or "i want you to want me" at least once a week it seems.  lately, it's been just about every night.

The most covered artists at shows that I've been at in the last 20 years has been Neil Young. Maybe that's just an indicator of my music tastes.

I would venture to guess the most covered song is "Louie Louie".

Thatguy, I'm with you.  Though I think it's certainly an indication of the bands I choose to see, but it's probably Cheap Trick the most...

Hootie did decently with "Surrender" I have to admit.

Cynically, I would say the Dead is most covered, but mostly by Dead cover bands...

i heard somewhere that the beatles' "yesterday" was the most covered song of all time ... i would think that bob dylan would be the most covered artist of all time though

in the 60s alone, tons of his songs were turned into pop hits by others

Yesterday might be for recorded covers, but live, it is probably different.  Yesterday doesn't have the live impact that many other songs would have.

So did Cheap Trick, when I saw them at Camden Yards. Though I must admit, "Surrender" didn't hold a candle to "the Flame".

I was going to say Bob Dylan or Bob Marley as well, but also Jimi Hendrix gets covered fairly often.
