Supergrass' mini-U.S. tour
« on: August 16, 2004, 01:43:00 pm »
Supergrass has announced a Washington DC show on 09/29/04, but the venue is TBA.  Will this be at the Club?

They are an excellent live act and one of the only Britpop bands still getting it done. (That means you...Blur, Oasis, Suede, Charlatans.)

Well there is no one else announced yet at 930 for that night....

And the last two DC supergrass shows were there....

If I was a gambling man I know where my money would be.

 Are radiohead britpop?

I figured as much, but am a bit confused by the TBA.  I mean, why bother?

Radiohead may have been considered britpop early on but I feel they have transcended that moniker years ago.

OH MAN...this is turning out to be one of the best years ever for live music. Supergrass are not really what I would call Britpop, though they could sort of be lumped into 1994-era Blur. Instead, I would say Supergrass has a heavy Buzzcocks-meets-late 70's pop influence. Think the production of "Brass in Pocket" by the Pretenders but charged up at 3 times the speed. Personally, Supergrass are one of my all-time favorite bands. If you have never seen them, check out their greatest-hits record "Supergrass is 10" or the last record they did "Life on Other Planets". They don't get credit for being great songwriters. If you've ever seen the movie Clueless, they are the ones that play the sing-songy tune "Alright" with the piano intro. Not exactly the best representation of their sound, but they are a fun band.

Well some bands like to announce the whole tour in one go. If negotiations have not been completed with a venue I guess TBA is inevitable.

So are radiohead now shitpop? Sorry I mean if they have transcended Britpop, does that not mean that they are more than getting it done?  :p

Sorry, I just imagined you saying all of that without a pause for breath....

Its just a shame that they wont have the coral as support this time.

I agree, I really enjoyed that show a lot. When I get excited about a band I don't shut...your vision was probably accurate!

Just a bit snide much?  Are you a linquist or do you deconstruct statements for fun?

So with the gratest hits album on the way is this going to be their swansong? I often despise bands for carrying on after their greatest hits album.

No, no, no.  I am sorry.  I did not know this was a place of proper grammar and spelling.  I had no idea I was being critiqued.  Would you prefer I speak in the Queen's English?

Supergrass (to my knowledge) is not breaking up. They have always done pretty well for themselves and have a solid fanbase, even in the US. I would be bummed if they did, though. Their last record (in my opinion) has been their best.
