Are you being sarcastic? I haven't heard the album but saw their in-studio performance at kcrw and thought they were utter shite...

Sweet.  A band brawl with the critics darlings would get you international notoriety....

Sarcastic.

Didn't you like Oasis? Then it is understandable, different musical concepts, as I understand it. Sin intentar echar mierda a tu banda ni nada, simplemente que creo que son dos estilos de musica distintos.

the CYHSY song I heard leads me to believe that I wouldn't like them... the vocalist makes me want to do bad things.

I fully agree!

I swear it's only the hype that sold out that show. Just didn't want to say anything while tickets were selling solely out of respect for Seth and his business but was dying to.

the only reason i like CYHSY is the lead singer, the rest of their sound is pretty run of the mill ... he has a really unique voice, and i could see how it could be grating to some

Hoya,

Would you have traded Tampa's loss to the Skins for a Duke victory over the Hoyas?

in a heartbeat.

tampa was in the playoffs, this was a (relatively) meaningless out-of-conference game in the middle of the season, we could have made it to the NCAAs without that win ... if the hoyas would have lost last night to notre dame (pulled it out in 2OTs), the duke win would have been just shot to shit ... however, i'll trade a georgetown win in the NCAAs to a bucs playoff win any day, the bucs 2002 super bowl win can hold me over for another 5-6 years

Would you trade the lead singers voice for a Georgetown NCAA win?

Ok, Kosmo, Jaguar, and Fico - questions for you.

I read these boards enough to know that you all have the credentials to be black belt rock snobs but aren't.  What is it about CYHSY that brings out the snark?  This isnâ??t Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson.  The group has gotten some publicity, but they donâ??t strike me as glory hounds or as having the same manufactured look/sound of other hyped acts (e.g. Bravery).  Am I just missing the hypery?  I certainly donâ??t read everything out there.

As for the music itself, it seems everyone is quick to happily dismiss the group based on a single listen.  Are your first impressions always spot on?  The vocals were an obstacle at first, but I agree with Hoya that now I think theyâ??re the most redeeming aspect of the sound.  Their live act does need work, but I just figured that as a new group theyâ??ve got to grow into it.  Iâ??m hoping to see some improvement from the BC show.

 Anyway, just some thoughts.

BTW, I dig De Novo Dahl and have seen the Cedars three times now, so you know I have good taste.  :)

honestly, i gave the track on a recent Paste sampler several listens and just couldn't get past the vocals... the music was by the numbers indie pop kinda twee and dreamy with lots of effects but once the guy started singing, yowsah.  i found the Broken Social Scene stuff boring as well, it's got that my girlfriend brother's roomate knows someone who plays french horn, why not tack that on the end of song for effect.

personally i rather see the High Strung who remind me off the Who right before they got all Rock Operery with the thundering bass lines, manic drumming and clever songwriting, verses a bunch of guys in beards dorking around with effects pedals. as some have pointed had they been outside of Brooklyn were hype is created NME style, they would have developed a tad more before getting thrust out into a more prominent position.

i suspect that more their CD was a demo which they  managed to sell more than they expected.  and more and more band and record companies will be start releasing stuff that are works in progress. Yep Roc is doing it with Cities on eMusic.
