CYHSY had deafening buzz from blogs, pitchfork and various blogs basically catapulted this demo CD they were selling from the trunks of cars and sparingly on the internet to top 10 lists all over the world ... the hypery was really huge on them, maybe just not as mainstream as the bravery

but i certainly don't think big hype necessarily makes a band unlistenable / unlikeable (and i don't think that's what kosmo and the rest are saying), if it weren't for the hype i'd never have heard these guys ... i'm not a dumpster-diver when it comes to music consumption, so i actually appreciate it when bands are "broke" this way

I dead on agree with all of this!

For me, besides the very irritating vocals, I'm just not even taken with any of the music. It does nothing for me whatsoever other than want to turn it off and move on to something else. The vocals just make me want to do it that much faster.

I can understand that they would have a little bit of a following but that's just it. It's all of that hype that I would say that I don't understand except that I fully understand the power of the media and how all of that works. I still stand by my belief that a majority of those tickets were only sold to bandwagon passengers even though they don't realize they are so. Call me a snob all you want as I really don't care one way or the other but I'm not going to lie just to be nice. I'm not trying to be mean or snarky either. Only speaking (or would that be writing) my mind.

Q: "Are your first impressions always spot on?"

Hell, no! Sometimes the bands that get under my skin (in a good way) the most are some of the ones that don't grab me at first. A few examples would be Elbow, Greenspace, I Am Kloot and Amusement Parks On Fire. There are often times where it takes me a few good listens to finally get it. CYHSY only gets worse for me with each additional listen. Sorry about that but at least I'm honest.

First off, thanks for assuming I have good taste. I'll never say my taste is bad but I'd be happy to get stuck in an island with the Oasis catalogue and nothing else.

dunno...maybe their kind of music is not what I'm into..I have the new Arctic Monkeys and something tells  me I'll get around to it once they're passĂ©...I never got into any of the garage acts...this year I've been digging the new Strokes and South record..and the new Richard Ashcroft and Elefant records to some extent...my bandmates scoff at it..but to each it's own...I guess the snark comes out of feeling "out"..just like when everyone understood algebra in class and you couldn't and you get the "what is wrong with me" guilt...so maybe that's what it is...

but ignore my stupid analogies...i'm foreign  :)

So what's that have to do with it? I always sucked at algebra too. Then again, I'm not your average American. Oh wait, I use to teach. My students were even worse than me!

Anyway, I agree with your analogy.

Worst Career Move.  Ever.

Most music careers last as long as the votive candle on my coffee table.  But royalties from The OC could last a lifetime...

Very true. Whether or not one likes the bands or the show, it would be a dumb career move to turn down an offer to be played on that show unless they have some other ingenious move up their sleeve. Hating the commercialism of being played on some popular tv show isn't a career move either. That's a principle to be commended or chided for, whichever stand you take. Personally, there is no way I will knock any band, especially a lesser known one, for allowing their music to be aired on this or any other show. Even CYHSY no matter how much I might not appreciate them.

Ah so I got it from you!!!....I was thinking to myself where did I get the 1/2 your age + 7 rule...I knew I didn't come up with it but made it part of my manifesto... great rule, I'd lie if I said I didn't almost break it more than once....
