You should come with me to Toledo tomorrow to see PJ. I'd like to convert you. I'm sure you'd have a great time with all those Vote For Changers!  :D

Caught it on tape. Poor Cooley got cut right out.

My prediction is Isbell will eventually leave the Truckers and become a solo star.

Anyone catch this? I heard they played an Isbell tune - Never Gonna Change.

I'm hardly surprised - it's a GREAT song - yet if you've been following the band for years - it sure jumps out as a big concession: The new kid is the rising star - he's grabbing the reigns & is their best shot at true success. I heard that Mike Cooley got precious little airtime. It'll be very interesting to watch this band's dynamic over the next few years.

Oh...& Isbell has a solo record coming out. From large hearted boy:

 Another Trucker Solo Album
Drive-By Trucker Jason Isbell's solo album, tentatively titled "Sirens of the Ditch" is scheduled for an early 2005 release on New West, DBT's label.

Judging from his tracks on the band's The Dirty South and Decoration Day and the rough mixes and live performances I've heard from this solo effort, it could well be my most highly awaited 2005 release. [/b]

We said the same thing about Isbell. You've got to wonder how long they can manage the three headed monster.

The Mike Cooley you often see now - laid back, mostly sober - is not the same Mike Cooley from years back. Partly it's his own doing - married w/kid. But I think it's also in part due to the emergence of J Isbell. I think he's accepted it, but I'm not sure he likes it.

Fuck, I was going to tape it and forgot....  And I'm missing the Reading, Ohio show tonight because I've got too much work/travel to head out and get back and keep my sanity.  Boo.

I saw Brian Wilson, though.  I thought it was kind of interesting.

I hope I'm not missing a joke here, but: She's married to Jason Isbell.
Supposedly, she's also a fine singer and songwriter. Look for 4 contributors coming soon.

My wife and I both believe that Cooley has the biggest cock of all the Truckers.

You're not missing a joke.  I wasn't aware she was Isbell's old lady.

Don't think a Tivo would have helped -- I wouldn't have Pearl Jam programmed as a passport or whatever it's called, and would still have to have set it to record that segment just that night...

 Thanks, grotty, for the link.

Pearl Jam appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman tonight to perform Masters of War, which is being released Tuesday on the "Songs and Artists that inspired Fahrenheit 9/11" compilation.

We recorded the performance and will be posting video shortly. But for now, here's audio:

Masters of War - Late Show 9/30 .mp3
Update: Video isn't ready yet. Possibly later tonight, but probably tomorrow.
