Gomez roll call

I agree there are jam tendencies with Gomez, but most of the time I just say it to get a rise out of Mark E.  I have seen Gomez twice and have enjoyed about half of the show, they are boring when they start "jamming".  I prefer the songs sung by the guy with the deep voice.  And having listened to the new album once I can agree it is awful and don't know what they were thinking.

A Big thumbs up Stiff Little Fingers, if only to be able to see Bruce Foxton from The Jam rock out on bass! I saw them a few years in Edinburgh and the show was Great.

Ditto, I missed everything last night.  An office mate went, but he thinks Gomez is one of the best live bands going, so he's not a good indicator.  Though even he left before the set was over.

gomez played for over two hours last night. i like a few of their songs, but their jamming is interminable. i say this as someone who plays improv and loves bands like can and old pink floyd, so i'm not opposed to jamming at all. however, i hate "jam bands" and don't like bands who jam that have nothing to offer. gomez aren't the worst at it, but all of their jams sound the same.
 
 i liked them more in 1999 when they were young, raw, and more focused, which trumps being accomplished musicians with aimless eclecticism any day.
 
 overall, ok show but way too long. of course, i was working, so i don't get to pay full attention to bands when they play, so my observations were made between doing club tasks.

amen to that.  one of my oldest friends lives in camden and showed me what she termed "nothing but the usual" on a thursday night.  8 hours later I woke up naked in her kitchen.  The headache was gone in about an hour, but the shit-eating grin lasted for days.

Oy, I am so glad I didn't go.  I don't know why -- I have the shortest trigger ever when it comes to jams, even if it's coming from one of my favorite bands.  Playing a great song, adding to  it in a live setting, is one thing, but I just go nuts once it goes on too long, is too much an exercise in "look how great we play..."  I don't want to be annoyed so quickly, I just am.  One of the things I think about a lot -- how people have an almost visceral response to music, what you like, what you don't (at least I do, so I assume others do....I  can't talk myself in to liking a band...).

Saw them last night in Towson. I thought the show was great!! They played for two hours and mixed it up with old and new.
 The opening band (guy) sucked. Rip off of G. Love & Special Sauce. I like GLSS though.
