Band Madness
« on: March 23, 2007, 02:03:00 pm »
Meant to post this last week but... There is a March Madness type tournament for bands going on right now   going on here http://bandmadness.net/

I weighed in on Bracket B and didn't check back in time for Bracket C.  Bracket D has some interesting pairings some which weren't even worth voting on and how do you choose between

 XTC vs. Dead Kennedys

 Interesting match ups
 Belle & Sebastian vs. Megadeth
 Barry White vs. Elliott Smith
 Moby vs. Lionel Richie
Public Enemy vs. Mary J. Blige

 Not worth the vote
 Bryan Adams vs. Blues Traveler
 Collective Soul vs. Justin Timberlake
 Cake Vs Goo Goo Dolls

When i voted this one was neck and neck
 Guided By Voices vs. Dio

In Bracket B The Meat Puppets beat Fallout Boy not sure if that was pro MP or anti-FOB.  There was
T.Rex

This reminds me of my college roommate, who would take ANY conversation and twist it into something music related. It got so annoying that when he's do it at the dining hall table, we'd all give him the silent treatment.

They're doing the same thing with beer in the Washington Post. I guess everyone has their own passion.

I actually really like Collective Soul, and absolutely despise Timberlake, so I beg to differ on that one being worth voting on.

Yeah - It's a little long.

The only one I had a hard time deciding was Television vs. Sleater-Kinney.

In bracket B here was some of my observations

The Velvet Underground is beating Kravitz  but poor Big Star is going up against the Chem Bros.  And how do you choose between DEVO and P-Funk or Wire and My Bloody Valentine
T.Rex

and i believe smackies head will explode when he gets to this one

 Journey vs. Scissor Sisters

 the most unfair match-ups are

 The Clash vs. Monkees

1) Styx shouldn't beat anything.
 2) I don't care for Ween, but My Chemical Romance is . . . . well, let's not elaborate on them.  They pass themselves off as a rock band. But here's my theory on that.
Just cause you pour syrup on shit, that doesn't make it pancakes.
 3) Love the Pumpkins, but > the MC5??? Fuck no.

Lastly, in all fairness, I won't begin to justify nor pretend that Audioslave ever stood up to the legend of Rage & Soundgarden.  But last I checked, T. Rex tracks (Electric Warrior is a GREAT/CLASSIC album, though)  do NOT contain the guitar work of Tom Morello.  And in a perfect world, indie hipster or otherwise, I think we all should agree that Tom Morello is a BAD man.  That's all . . . Good day.
