I've seen dios malos twice now and found them a bit boring both times... Not bad. Just boring. Are they better on record?

I would concur based on the one time I saw them.

really? a great band? seems like they are as ordinary and run-of-the-mill as it gets. who  isn't a great band, betty? seems like every band that's mentioned around here (except for C+C prog emo factory) is in your "top 5" or you "love them." i know you're young and positive and your spirit hasn't been broken yet, but c'mon, you can't just love every band. you have to hate some. you have no credibility otherwise. maybe that's not your goal, but still. so anyway, i would be interested to know five bands that you really hate, that you think flat out suck. so have it at. and no super obvious ones like nickelback or limp bizkit or radiohead. i'm talking bands that people on here might really be into.

for example, here are some from me:
 the decemberists
 queens of the stone age
 rilo kiley
 secret machines
 grandaddy

so there. since betty is probably in school right now, others should feel free to play for the time being.

That would make a good, catty thread. "Name five bands that other music fans love but you hate"

Awww, leave poor betty alone.  I find her complete adoration for all of these bands endearing.  Don't you remember the good old days of being so into music that everything was great?  Are we all really that old and crotchety?  It's like listening to the Comic Book Guy at times...

 3. Journey

I'll get back to you on the other two.

Maybe it should be "Name five INDIE bands that other music fans love but you hate"

Journey, or any other classic rock band, would be too easy of a selection.

I saw Dios at the Black Cat a year when they opened for Beulah and I rather enjoyed their set. After the show, I bought their album and have been rather happy with it. "Great" is too strong of a word for this band. I would say a notch below "very good." I'd certainly like to see them again, but I don't think I'll make the trip to Ottobar. Do they have a new album out that they are touring with? Will they be performing in DC?

i'm actually NOT in school right now (on my way cause i've been sick), but i find your desire to start shit on a message board a bit overwhelming.  my philosophy is, as far as positivity, there is enough crap in life that really sucks and there's no need to be unnecesarily negative when you really just don't have to be.  i love music, and i end up liking a LOT of stuff that i hear...probably because i was exposed to such a wide variety of genres from a really young age.  i'm probably into a few ska and punk bands that a lot of you would hate.

there aren't any bands that i really HATE with a firey passion, but there are quite a few that just don't do it for me as much as people say they will...

Bright Eyes will top my list now and forever

Phish - tons of respect for them as musicians, but their music doesn't do anything for me.

Franz Ferdinand - i would still like to see them live, but i really don't think they are as great as everyone says they are.  i mean.  they're alright.

The Strokes - again, i like them alright, but i don't think they are THAT good

The Killers - a couple of jems on that album, but most are fairly mediocre to sucky

 The Bravery - Killers ripoffs

Jet - these guys got way too much credit for being assholes and for ripping off Iggy Pop

and i'm sure there are more, but i'm just not negative really off the top of my head.  there's SEVEN of 'em for ya.

Aren't CURRENTLY hating all those bands you list a requirement to being on the hipster bandwagon? You forgot Kings of Leon.

since when is "hating" a lame band limited to hipsters... i'd say the list presented is accurate, expect for the Franz Ferndinand.

"Great" is too strong of a word for this band. I would say a notch below "very good."
this was sort of my point, i was just trying to have some fun in addition. people look to others on here for musical opinions/recommendations (for whatever reason!), so you gotta have some point of reference. if it's love-love-love-love, what's the point?

 and betty--

no, not at all.  plenty of other boards i have been on have been much, much worse.  i find all of you on here (except for that redneck dude or whatever that said he didn't want "kids" at "his" shows) to be really nice and respectible people.
