True story.  Chic is the shit.  Only "disco" (no disprespect to them) group I can think of that doesn't sound dated even today.  "I Want Your Love" & "My Forbidden Lover" are the shit.  Plus Nile & Bernard were legendary producers with a dumb amount of classics under their belt.  Funny shit is, Nile produced more than a few of Madonna's early "classics" . . .

Donna Summer was more involved in the writing of her music than you probably think. 1977's "I Feel Love" changed the pop soundscape overnight.

Chic had the tightest rhythm section of the late 70s/early 80s. The Sugarhill Gang's seminal rap single "Rapper's Delight" used "Good Times" as its rhythm bed.

And Afrika Bambaataa practically invented hip-hop. Denying him HOF entry would be like refusing Chuck Berry. [/b]
True story cubed.    :D

So Metallica didn't make the short this but Mr. "This is OUR COUNTRY!" did?

I have utter, righteous hatred for Mr. Johnny Cougar.  To be Mr. I'll-never-sell-songs-for-a-commercial then renounce all that...why?  Because he needed the money?  No, because he wasn't BEING PLAYED ON RADIO!  Ah, too bad you useless squirm.

 Brian

P.S.  I may hate him more than I hate Pink Floyd, the Beatles and Springsteen.

Man, you have thrown right there three pillars of all the decent rock/pop music you can hear today...I'm sure a lot of the bands you listen to have been influenced by at least one of those names...

Really?  I thought PB received a huge WTF when it came out because it was Licensed To Ill Part II. Even I admit to not listening to it much when it first came out because it wasn't what I was expecting.  That attitude has changed over the years.

I was living in a college dorm when it came out...It was that and Mother's Milk 24-7.  No wonder I had to stay drunk and high that whole year.

Man, they're scraping the bottom on the barrel.
Guess you haven't heard Paul's Boutique" then? Dismiss all you want but the Beasties Boys, were up until recently, ahead of the curve.  "Sabotage" ranks up there as one of the best rock songs ever written! [/b]
Paul's Boutique is a phenomenal album, but I think it has more to do with the Dust Brothers' production...

So did the people in Chaz's original list actually make it in, or are they just finalists up for consideration?

With all the bitching about the nominee's and quality control. How many Hall of Famers can you actually care to name?

Here's a few one/none hit wonders already in the Rock and Roll HOF.
 The Moonglows
 The Impressions
 The Rascals
 Charlie Christian
 Little Willie John
 The Contours
 LaVern Baker

Hall of Fame nominee tip: The key to getting in quickly is dying. Bill Monroe got in and he played bluegrass!
 Ricky Nelson - died '85, HoF '87
 Curtis Mayfield - died '00, HoF '03
 Frank Zappa - died '93, HoF '95
 George Harrison - died '01, HoF '04
 Bill Monroe - died '96, HoF '97
 Ramones - Joey died '01, HoF '02
 Clash - Joe died '02, HoF '03
 Del Shannon - died '90, HoF '99
 George Harrison - died '01, HoF '02

I think "raped" is a little strong but I WAS inappropriately touched a couple days ago by that new Springsteen single "(This is polluting the) Radio (and my career is going) Nowhere.)

Most glaring ommission:

 The Stooges

the NPR recording of their 9:30 show from earlier this year is the best balls-to-the-wall rock music I've heard in ages.
