Title: Super Bowl XLV: Steelers vs. Packers
Post by: sweetcell on January 31, 2011, 05:52:15 pm
vegas is favoring the cheeseheads by 2.5-3... AKA too little to indicate a real preference.  further evidence this could be a great game.  over/under set at 44.5 or 45.  i'd take the under given the defenses.  speaking of over/unders... (http://twitter.com/darrenrovell/statuses/30671205837049856)

oh, the horror:

now they're cloning them? ;)

i'll be rooting for the Pack, mildly, but i mostly just want a good game.  i'm having both steelers and packers fans at my place to watch the game.  hopefully no one will have a heart attack (http://edition.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/01/31/super.bowl.heart.attacks/index.html).

Can't stand the Steelers but I actually like Hines Ward for some reason.  Go figure.

I'll be rooting for the Pack.

As a Bengals fan, I don't care who wins. But I'd love to see Hines Ward get concussed on a route over the middle. Maybe he can lose some teeth so we don't have to see him smile any more.

Is there a bet on how many times he smiles on camera?

I predict a God-awful, sloppy game that will piss you off the more you watch it like the Steelers-Seahawks Super Bowl did.   More turnovers than yesterday's Pro Bowl.

Bucs-Raiders in 2003 was way worse.  i actually turned off the game and... i forget what i did.  read a book.  listened to some music.  anything was more entertaining than that sh*t show.

again, given the DEF of both team, and the proclivity of the QBs to throw INTs (well, roethlisberger at least), they might well come close on your turnover prediction.

neither qb has really thrown a lot of interceptions this year, not sure where youre getting that from. not to say its not going to happen, but both teams force turnovers but hold on to the ball well, so to me that could go either way

I don't want the Steelers to win, but I am rooting for a good game.

I think it's hard to think that the dominance of both teams defenses will be exploited. I'm excited to see Troy Palamalu and Clay Matthews do their things and am hoping for some big hits. I think the one big advantage one team has over the other is Ben Roethlisberger, unfortunately. His ability to move around and keep plays alive is undeniable. Yes, he is a fat rapist, but his skills at quarterback are literally disgusting. I despise that motherfucker and his team and his city. He's the only thing that worries me, I don't see the Packers winning this game, but I'll be rooting for them as if they're the Redskins becuase I hate the Steelers that much.

I almost shit my pants when the Cardinals ALMOST beat them a few years back. It was a good game, BUT the Steelers won. I hope that trend doesn't continue. I seriously can't stand watching them win another Super Bowl.

I almost wish the Steelers lose just because their fans have become unbearable but can you blame them? They flat out win.

The thing about Ben's rape I just don't let that enter the equation and I think people who say they want the Packers to win because of that are flat out ridiculous.

Yes.  Pittsburgh fans are the sorriest, most-unbearable, arrogant, entitled, snotty, intolerant fans in the world.  They're Beatles fans.  However, if you could combine them with the woe-is-me, we'll-NEVER-win, navel gazing, depressed (you know, Cure fans) Eagles fans from the East, you'd have a normal Pennsylvania sports enthusiast.

Not at all saying I want the Packers to win because of Ben's alleged rape, it's becuase I hate the Packers. I was AT FedEx on that Monday night when at LEAST half the stadium was their fans. Yes, I was an asshole, but this is MY hometown! It's bad enough they win, but they came into our stadium and did that! It was ridiculous, yes we are to blame, but it still sucked so hard. It's shaming really. Our organization doesn't give a shit about us as fans. But, that's neither here nor there.

I wish we had that in our defensive backs. I mean, I think Landry is great, but he's pretty reckless. Somehow I think Palamalu has more control and is very shut down. It hasn't been until the last few games I've seen him miss. He's a beast. I'd take him over any other safety in the NFL right now.

I hate to say it but I see a similar situation to nfc championship with rodgers rolling early then getting shaken up by a deliberate cheap shot and steelers pulling it out (as roethlisberger is opposite of cutler).  Unless that doesn't happen.  Best case scenario is cwoodson winning mvp forcing turnovers that packers capitalize on.

neither qb has really thrown a lot of interceptions this year, not sure where youre getting that from.

roethlisberger career postseason stats: 18 TDs, 14 INTs (includes this season's 2-2).  somehow he's managed to win two SBs and has now gotten himself to a third, all the while playing worse in Jan/Feb than he does during the regular season (with the exception of 2006, which was an anomaly for him).

8 of those interceptions were his rookie year and that awful stinker against the jags

he was better in 2008 post season than regular too

he had one bomb that was as good as a punt and an interception that was on mendy last week

not sure how any of that trumps having a good year though

as far as why he's where he is, its all about 19 fourth quarter comebacks and 25 game winning drives

are you saying a good regular season automatically leads to a good postseason?  they they are the same thing? ;)

don't take me too serious - it was an off-hand comment and a riff on walalce's prediction that there would be as many picksin the SB as there were in the pro bowl.  don't worry, your boy roethlisberger is a good lil' QB and i'm sure he'll do very well on sunday.

funny, i was going to ask the same thing earlier this week.

instead i'll be going with yuenling even tho it's more of a "PA beer" as opposed to PIT-specific.  besides, green bay is being represented by miller high life and leinenkugel, also "state beers" as opposed to actually coming from GB.

dude you have to go with a pitt beer.. green bay is a small city so it makes sense to go with a state beer for them but pittsburgh is a big ciy in a very big state...

Off the top of my head:

Victory
Troeggs
Weyerbacher
Stoudts
Lancaster

Everything I've had by Victory has been great.

Troeggs Nugget Nectar is one of my top ten all time beers, and it's seasonal release was last week.

I don't think any of them are from Pittsburgh, but who cares.

They all make better beer than Yuengling.

I don't want to say it was a good day for Pittsburgh-fan haters yesterday, but...

To God's Shoeshine:

The sad part is, despite all of their turnovers, the Steelers could have easily won that game.  The Packers NEVER finish out opponents.  Roethisberger idolized Elway.  Maybe he's going to have Elway's Super Bowl career in reverse.

As for the commercials, once again Telaflora made my favorite with the Faith Hill one.  I've tried that in real life however and it doesn't work.  9 out 10, slap you, punch you, knee you in the groin...but the 10th one?    Magic.

Also, I liked the Pepsi Max "Thoughts on a first date" one, the Kardashian one and the GoDaddy.com one with Jillian Michaels and Danica Patrick (It's a TEASE.  It's like Burlesque.  It's what they DON'T SHOW.)

The Half-time show?  GaGa?  The ball is in your court next year.

And as for Ms. Dirrrrrrty.  Jeez.  It wasn't a good day for people from Pittsburgh fumbling things was it?

I predict charles woodson will narrowly edge out lamarr woodley for mvp of my heart.

I despise anyone and anything to do with the University of Michigan, but even I will admit, Charles Woodson is a bad motherfucker. Too bad he got hurt last night. At least my boy Greg Jennings (BA Western Michigan University 2006) made up for it.

I believe the world would be a better place if the Black Eyed Peas were subjected to enhanced interrogation and extraordinary rendition before being indefinitely incarcerated at Guantanamo for crimes against humanity. They are a commercial vehicle with no artistic value, period. They can't sing, they're fucking auto-tuned, they don't play instruments, they write songs specifically for marketers and the lowest common denominator of society and their songs are fucking awful.

I don't specifically despise Pittsburgh natives like I do Philly fans, but I'm glad they lost because they've been irritating the shit out of. Consistent winning will do that. Now when the Caps finish the job and cunt punt the Pens out of the playoffs, I'll feel a lot better.

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the Motorola Xoom commercial (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BPFODsob1I&feature=player_embedded).

Everything else I washed away with booze...

I liked the Bud Light remodeling one, simple concept. Beer makes everything better. The kid as Darth Vader, the Faith Hill one. None too hilarious. Way more excited about seeing that Super 8 commercial!!

Ugh!  I strongly dislike both so I'm going to ruin the movie for you:

SPOILER!

It's a sequel to Cloverfield.
