Round 1 is practically over and no playoffs thread? For real?
Anywho, the West has wrapped their first round up. Tonight the East will wrap up with the Lightning taking on the Penguins and the Canadiens taking on the Bruins. Both in game 7.
Really wish I could watch both of these teams. Obviously my least favorite team is the Penguins followed closely by the Canadiens. I don't really hate the Canadiens for the debacle of last year with our beloved Caps, but moreso becuase of their overall shitty style of playing hockey. Every single time this season we stepped on the ice with them it was like their defense was to act like giant deflated balloons on our fowards and any one else on the ice. They would just do "Trust Falls" on all of our players. It was lame, and damn boring.
That being said, I feel I'd most like to play against them in the 2nd round. I hate Boston, but for no good reason outside of their fans are obnoxious as all hell. Lightning we played like... 6 times or something... I believe... and they're boring as well, they have a pretty good offense and they gave us a run for our money, but I wouldn't want to watch us play them another, at least, 4 times. The Penguins I'd like to see in any round but not really. I want to beat that fucking team with all of their players in and healthy. Playing at the top of their game and THEN we beat them. Not to take any credit away from the Pens, they've had a damn good season considering the injuries. Right now people are saying "Wow, look at how good they STILL are", but if we beat them it would be because Cindy Crysby and Malkin were out, but whatever.
Anywho, I've liked the playoffs so far and as good as it is for our team to be resting, I miss them :(
Oh, go Caps!

That goal by Toews to tie it last night was sick sick sick....

This thread needs to die.

And this. Holy crap.

we need some of that sweet rapper swagger in here. that should kill it.

I heard the best way to make a thread die is to keep posting in it so that it stays on the front page.
Can't believe the Canadiens AND the Penguins were eliminated last night. It's awesome, but I would have liked to meet one of them. 4-1-1 all season vs the Lightning. Should be a fun series!
-
On the bright side...we won't choke at the hands of the Pens for a change!!!!
Is this our year?? God I hope so. The Caps have broken my heart so many times.
-
I don't really see us having a problem with any team except the Bruins. They are a very physical and gritty team. But for once I have confidence in the Caps. Not hope, but confidence. It's not that I think we could handle any other team easily in the conference, I just think that we can simply.....beat them. The 1 team no one wanted us to face throughout the year was the Rangers. And we beat them in 5. Yes, it was ugly, yes it was close, but we won. And I hope for ONCE that WE are the team with the read hot goalie. But, we're not on the outside looking in.
I loved in 24/7 when the Pens coach called Neuvy shakey and then we swept them this year. I think Neuvy got 2 of those wins. 1 being in the Winter Classic.
-
Well said, DFA. Tampa is an excellent team with solid goaltending. I hope Stamkos doesn't get hot. I hope someone castrates Steve Downie.
-
I think the new defensive mindset and scheme will smother any offense they have. Not to take anything away from them, we kept the Rangers incredibly limited and looking at game 5 when we ramped it up, it was just a joke! They couldn't get it out of their own fucking zone for a good chunk of the game. Now, the Lightning are leagues ahead of the Rangers in the offensive column, but I don't feel their as well rounded. We've played this team 6 times this season and I'm sure they've kept an eye on the Lightning during the Pens series. I think we can wrap this in at most 6 games. I said 5 for the Rangers! so, let's see if i go 2 for 2!
Bruins and Flyers should be a fucking hell of a series too.
-
I think you're giving the Rangers too much credit offensively and Tampa not enough. The Rangers were nothing but a pop gun offense with a ghost for its best offensive player (Gaborik). The Caps will not be able to fall asleep this series because the Lightning are too good offensively.
Yes, the Caps' commitment to defense will be their biggest asset. But give the Lightning a little more credit, they aren't a bunch of limpdicks like the Blueshits.
I think the hardest part about the last series was seeing how far superior of a team the Caps were compared to the Rangers (see Games 1, 2, last two periods of 4, 5) but when they came out LAZY and content in Game 4, they got their asses handed to them. The Rangers' only offensive game plan was physical play and antagonizing. That and Queen Lundqvist, they had nothing.
-
Agreed. No one wanted to face the Rangers with Ryan Callahan, not without.
-
Ack, didn't meant to give them MORE credit. I understand they were down and effing backed into the playoffs. I think the Caps handled them soundly and I agree there were flashes in game 4 of the pure laziness that I've come to resent in so many DC teams and I started to panic... a little. I like they showed that kind of....relentlessness that people have come to expect, but still having that responsible restraint. I'm not selling the Lightning short by any means, and I'm sure they want to give us everything they've got because we've kicked their shit up their ass for the past couple of years in the division and even this year they were looking like a lock for the Southeast but we found a fire and took it from them. I feel like we're their big brother that they want to show us what they can do. By no means do I think it will be an easy series, but I don't think we'll get into shootouts with them or have any lopsided losses like they headed the the Pens. And especially not at the 'Phone Booth'.
Still say we get them in 6.
-
the season from hell will end with the either caps or flyers lifting the cup. and they will beat the wings in the finals. i am sure of this
I loved in 24/7 when the Pens coach called Neuvy shakey and then we swept them this year. I think Neuvy got 2 of those wins. 1 being in the Winter Classic.
there was no sweep this year
-
if i'm a caps fan i'd have been rooting hard for the pens last night. tampa are a good team, the pens are a good team except they have no one that can shoot
funny to see people try to make the rangers out to be the toughest team the caps will play in the east. tb and philly both have the forwards to get to neuvy
-
I was feeling fairly agnostic about the Caps opponent in round 2. Each potential opponent presented it's own set of potential demons or pitfalls. From a ratings or intrigue standpoint the bolts were the worst potential outcome, but I think it is prob the matchup that will produce the most entertaining hockey. I don't really care what path the caps take on a cup run. Naysayers will always naysay...if we faced the Pens and won the line would be we didn't face a team at full strength, if we don't people will say we didn't have to go through them.....i don't really care. In my mind there is no way to delegitimize any stanly cup champ after the grind that is the playoffs.
I didn't see the entire game last night, but wow, that 3rd period and overtime between habs/bruins was good good stuff.
On to round two.
PS - Tampa's offensive firepower scares me

Naw, I'm just stating what I heard and saw. I wasn't afraid of the Rangers, it was more the talking heads throughout the year that said they stifled us all year. I'm not selling Tampa short either, they have an insane amount of offense there is no doubt about that. But they're still a very young team. Should be a fun series without a doubt.
I think if we make it to the conference championship, that would be our toughest match. Bruins or Flyers, both very good teams. Very gritty, very physical teams. But, that talk is for later. I'm excited to get this series underway! And very excited to see the Flyers and Bruins duke it out. 4 solid teams in the East remain. The west... something.
-
Have the Flyers found a goaltender? Or are they still playing spin the bottle?
-
yeah same as last year
-
Didn't Boucher play their last 2 games with Bobrovsky as back up? Either way, I guess Boucher's reached his limit for consecutive games started.
-
Have the Flyers found a goaltender? Or are they still playing spin the bottle?
whoever is chosen by the bottle has to make out with chris pronger.
-
Looks like Boucher from here on out. He's been playing well. Helps to get a four goal boost in Game 7s.
-
for those who care (and can afford it) - tickets for games 1 and 2 went on sale not too long ago. singles still left for both games. not great seats, but at least they're available for face. i got in early and scored third row off the ice ;D
correction: pairs still available for tomorrow's game 1.
-
Tampa's in for a long effing week. They played Tues/Wed now Fri and Sun then Tue/Wed
6 games in 8 days. Rough!
-
they played monday and wednesday in the last round. should be interesting sometimes the long layoffs can help, sometimes they hurt
-
Oh crap, right I was thinking of the Canadiens/Bruins
Getting very gitty. Giddy.....
-
For those watching the caps game: in the end where the bolts shoot twice, third row behind the faceoff circle (second 120), on the aisle, is a dude in a red t-shirt with bright yellow long sleeves. that may or may not be yours truly. TBD.
-
SHIT!!! Here we go again for Caps fans....
-
I'm not panicking. We outplayed them for 2 games now and they got 2 shitty bounces off of us. I hate when they get behind our net and we can't get them out. Argh. Very frustrating first 2 games. I think Boudreau has seen enough to make a solid game plan. When he called that timeout under 2 minutes he knew exactly what we had to do with the extra man and within seconds Ovi ties the game up. Their PK is stifling. I think we can break it, our offense is just too potent, but it's still frustrating. They've scored in each game on their power plays and gotten lucky bounces off of us, we've been slamming them and peppering Roloson with shots. I don't think they're deflated, I think we can still pull this out. Tuesday will be a huge game.
-
Thanks for that...it makes me feel better. I don't have whatever obscure cable channel they're putting the games on. And the local papers down here is basically YANKEES SPORT REPORT, even though we have the Marlins, not to mention the Heat if netball is your thing.
This was this mornings sport report on the local AM radio news channel.
The Yankess take the series over the Blue Jays. Smedruck Von Smedrick pitched 7 innings before being relieved by Herbie Schnurgleburger..blah blah blah. They now take their 14 and 4 (or whatever) record to some city for a 3 game series with blah blah blah. The Yankees remain top of their yada yada yada..... The Heat beat the Celtics 99-90. Oh, the Marlins were in Cincinnati.
I live in south FL but you would never know it eh? No wonder they call it the 6th burough.
-

except for a few games on the weekend on NBC, most games are on Versus. i thought Versus was pretty much a standard cable channel. what are all those snowbirds watching?!?
y'all also have the Panthers, not that they really count as a hockey team...
-
especially because comcast is everywhere
i thought that tb soundly outplayed the caps in the third last night. tying goal was a little bit of good fortune too
-
And the 2 TB goals that bounced off our players weren't? There's always luck in hockey, I feel like TB has been on the better side of that the first 2 games. Hopefully we turn that around tonight.
-
my bad, i was too vague. i mean the caps had some good luck on the tying goal like tb did on the second, though i think lecavalier puts it in if green doesnt
dont get me wrong, both games were very evenly played. i think the caps can still win this. but based on what i've seen tb is winning because their stars are better and they dont have mike green screwing things up. caps could turn both around
-
Green's playing better this series than last year against the Canadiens. He's playing a lot better, 1 mistake doesn't negate his great play in the post season so far.
-
-2, no points in the series. plus that awful penalty on stamkos. guess that's an improvement :D
-
It's not always in the stats, he does get into plays and shoots when he has to.
-
Fuck the NHL. Who starts a playoff game on a weeknight before 7? Oh yeah, the NHL.
-
Thuroughly outplayed last night. Not even mad, frustrated, or disappointed. Just plain sad. They look exactly how they did last year. Deflated, defeated, and just beat. This team lacks fire and discipline. They panic too quickly. You could see the wind come out of their sails after TB scored their first goal. Neuvy's done just about everything to keep us in game and we've hung him out to dry. The only person I see out there for the entire game is Ovi. Everyone else just gets shoved around. Just a shame. I've been optimistic up until the end of last night's game. Now I think we're just in time for the collapse.
-
which TV channel carried the game last night? Comcast?
i set up my DVR to record the game on Versus, but i came home to "best of the NHL special" - AKA the filler they put on for in-market games. while the special was entertaining to watch for a while, i was pissed that i wasn't able to watch the caps game. then again, maybe it was for the better.
anyhoo, i'm hoping to figure this out so i can record tonight's game.
-
It was on CSN, should be on CSN tonight too becuase the NHL Network is broadcasting is nationally [except in the 2 local markets]
I have my fingers crossed, but I'm not holding my breath. The Caps can barely come back in a game let alone a series. Chalk it up to another tough lesson learned.
-
Bah.
It's not over yet. But this has been dissapointing to say the least.
I moved on mon/tues so have not been able to watch much of this series.
I think it was in period 2 game 2, they were camping out BIG time in front of the net. They got no goals for their efforts, but after seeing that i was feeling pretty good. Then they lose the game in OT on a nice goal that resulted from a slow lazy line shift.
Didn't see enough last night to say one way or the other about what's going on. Except that this series is almost over.
-
They had played good enough in game 1 and 2 to merit lots of hope and optimism, but they came out flat. They didn't come out like a team that NEEDED to win, a team that knows what the disappointment feels like and doesn't want to repeat that, the number 1 seed 2 fucking years running. They don't look like the team that turned it around after the 8 game losing streak. They looked undisciplined and frustrated and beat. I can usually watch when we're down, but this was just umbearable. TB tied it 3-3 and took the lead 4-3 in the blink of an eye and that's when I knew it was over. We held the lead for 3 minutes, I counted hahahaha

Rookie.

Two players who need to be traded immediately when the season is over is Alexander Semin and Nick Backstrom. Two Marian Gaborik-style overpaid, content sacks of shit who would rather float around the ice and wait to shoot the puck than do what it takes to win playoff hockey games, i.e. get in front of the net and the corners and get the shit kicked out of them for the sake of the team. There are only four players on this team with even a fucking idea of what grinding entails: Ovechkin, Knuble, Chimera and Arnott. Everyone else is skating around like they've never played playoff hockey before.
Also, our defensemen are fucking pathetic. Erskine and Shultz are god awful, Mike Green needs to be dealt while he still has decent value (his next concussion will probably be his last).
How predictable to see the Caps blow a 3-2 lead in a matter of 30 seconds. This whole "converting to a defensive system" during midseason was a bunch of fucking garbage. This team's defense is AWFUL! AWFUL! You can't teach an old dog new tricks. You can't get a bunch of overpaid lazy piles of shit like Backstrom and Semin to play defense and grind. Even more than Bruce, McPhee needs to have his feet held to the fire for this shiftless, offensive lineup full of LAZY PUSSIES.
Lazy fucking pussies.

directv's dvr will record the right one for you, even if you set it incorrectly
-
i'm on Fios, so the directv thingy doesn't help unfortunately.
i set up my dvr online yesterday, and the game was listed as being on versus in the online interface. had i been less rushed it probably would have occurred to me to check comcast. anyhoo, i'm all set for tonight. thanks, team.
-
Don't feel too bad. I didn't start watching the game last night until 7 because I assumed playoff games on the east coast start at, you know, 7.
-

You have come far, young padawan.

may the 4th be with you

Shultz is piss poor and I don't know how he has remained on the team and Hendricks gets scratched. Alzner and Carlson are giving Shultz a run for his money. I wouldn't miss him if they stopped playing him.
It's unfortunate to say, but I do think Semin and Nicky could go. They've shown through multiple series that they're pretty much worthless in the post season and we don't need regular season stars at this point, we need championship, 82 game playing, 16 playoff game winning players.
It's so sad to see Ovi taking the puck through the zone and getting hacked by 3-4 lightning players and no one being behind him. I feel that his play is inspiring, but to no one on the team. I wish Ovi would call everyone out, as the captain, and demand some sort of heart be shown. Boudreau blaming everyone else and complaining, this team has to fucking man up or else this stigma of being a finesse team and chokers will never go away. In 7 horus we'll know if this whole season was a waste or if there's any hope left.
-
Semin has scored a decent amount of points this postseason (compared to Backstrom's pitiful two) so McPhee would be able to get a pretty good amount in return, plus Semin only has one year left so he could get dealt to a team that wants to clear up cap space. Backstrom, on the other hand, ALSO just got his big deal, but isn't putting up ANY points nor effort. Makes me fucking sick.
You know who I want on my team? Guys like Ryan Malone. Proven winners who are bad, hard-nosed motherfuckers who only know one way to play: HARD AT THE NET. Malone also is amazingly able to score goals as well. See, McPhee? It IS possible to be able to both play defense AND score goals! Amazing.
You know what else makes me fucking sick? We hear all this bullshit PATIENCE from that fat fuck Ted. Patience with Bruce. Patience with the lineup. Patience with McPhee. But in his first fucking season as GM, Steve Yzerman is gonna have his charges in the conference finals.
Fuck you, Ted. Show some stones and hire the Assistant GM out of Detroit.
-
i can assure you ryan malone is not worth his contract
-
Someone needs to come in, roll up a newspaper, and smack everyone in the organization on the nose. From ted down to DJ King. It's been a great run to here, but if this is where we get to every year then a change has to be made. You don't accumulate this kind of talent just to squander it.
-
this kind of talent
I think this is the big question: Are they TRULY that talented?
-
this kind of talent
I think this is the big question: Are they TRULY that talented?
I think it is, but we're dealing with a bunch of players who have been told they're talented so they kind of expect things to happen instead of busting their asses for chances.
If we let Nick, Mike, and Alex Semin go, I wouldn't be sad or surprised. Green played well when he came back, but hasn't produced and has turned out to be more a liability. Semin fell off this series, and Nicky is a ghost. We need people who will crash the net and step up when they need to. Bring Perreault back up.
-
Bring Perreault back up.
To do what? Crash the net? Hah.
I don't think so.
He hasn't EVER been able to put together more than two or three productive games.
At one point I took a shining to that kid. He's cute and a wily at times. But so far from what this teem needs.
-
well that was uninspired.
-
You said everything would be fine....LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE.
Ho-hum another Caps season comes to an end in it's usual fashion.......
-
I chalk it up to George Washington pissing on something holy.
-
same old Caps
-
Backstrom will stay, having just signed that expensive long term contract.
Knuble stays. Top line stays the same next year. Hopefully Backstrom will come back with something better.
Semin must go, and will.
Laich must go, but may not.
Bye bye DJ.
Enjoy another year in Hershey Matthieu. You're right where you belong.
Sturm will be gone, he was filler.
Arnott will stay.
Hendricks. Please keep.
Poti, enjoy your retirement.
Hanan stays.
Sarge and Sloan...blah. Our D needs more than warm bodies.
A healthy Wideman will be nice, he will stay.
Green, I just don't know. He's kindof the NHL whipping boy (and i mean that literally. teams love picking on him), and is one concussion away from low value, but I liked the way his game progressed this year. Might be too much of a poster boy to get rid of, but if they did i wouldn't be cryin at all.
Carlson and Alzner will remain a pair. Carlson didn't have a very good series from what little I saw...not very responsible with the puck. Seemed a little overwhelmed, deer in the headlights.
Erskine. Please keep this guy. He adds much needed toughness and spark to this team. He stepped up this year with the guts and fists. And pretty much negates the need to keep a roster spot for some loser like DJ King. How many times did he dress this year? 10?
Varly gets dealt, Neuvirth and Holtby get the goalie of the moment treatment next year. I'm honestly shocked that Varly didn't get the start last night. After 3 straight losses and back to back games, you got to make a change. Bad move Bruce.
And Gabby. wow. After a good 1st round performance I didn't think i'd be saying this, but he's gotta go. The bolts just owned us. All the SE division banners don't mean shit if he can't coach in the playoffs. He was out coached. Badly. Made NO adjustments to deal with the 1-3-1. And if he did he could not get his guys to execute them. He showed me nothing this series. Nothing at all. Maybe too many carpet and car commercials. I've liked him but he's gotta go.
Two epic meltdowns two years in a row. A tradition is born. Right now Sergei's 3rd period goal in game 7 against the rangers in 2009 is the last sweet memory this team has.

I'm going to follow the Redskins model and let it rot and fester. Poke it with a stick. Come back a little later. Take a big whiff. Bitch. Cry. Leave. Come back.

note the title of this thread. hard to believe, but there is more to the playoffs than the caps so the thread will remain relevant beyond last night's elimination. definitely sucks to have the home team knocked out but still plenty of quality hockey to be played.
in other news, i was watching the SJ-DET game last night and TSN was providing coverage. i don't remember the last time anyone used the word "biscuit" that many times to refer to the puck. i like it when they call it "the biscuit".
-

thank you thank you thank you.
I will enjoy the rest, though unfortunately the potential matchups that are shaping up are not as compelling as they could have been. BUT, at least I won't be watching my team flail around out there.
And I'll take my biscuit bouncing, please.

Locker used to say "biscuit" in between every vowel a couple years ago. Wonder what happened to that. He talks more about mustard and lazers now.
Bruins AND Sharks up 3-0? Kinda fucking crazy. Quickest 2nd round ever!
-
Backstrom will stay, having just signed that expensive long term contract.
Yeah, unfortunately. This pussy needs to be on the first bus out of town.
Semin must go, and will.
Doubt it. Ted will be a pussy and state that his eight points (most in the first round) were worth his ridiculous salary. Him and Backstrom need to be traded now.
Green, I just don't know. We like Mike but we all see the writing on the wall. Sub-average defensive defenseman and his next concussion will be his last. He's already going downhill value-wise, move him NOW before we can't even get a bag of pucks and a log of dip for him.
Carlson and Alzner will remain a pair. Carlson didn't have a very good series from what little I saw...not very responsible with the puck. Seemed a little overwhelmed, deer in the headlights.
Both were awful this playoff season.

I'm honestly shocked that Varly didn't get the start last night. After 3 straight losses and back to back games, you got to make a change. Bad move Bruce.
You're kidding, right? Mike was the only guy keeping the Caps in Game 3.

Dear Ted Leonsis:
For years, us Caps fans have accepted your bullshit takes of "Be patient. We're doing things the right way." All season long, we accepted your bullshit take of "We're transitioning into a defense-oriented team." All season long, we accepted your bullshit take that "we're building a team for the postseason."
Fuck you, Ted. We're sick of your bullshit phony karmic philosophies. Your happy-go-lucky garbage like "The Pursuit of Happiness (Made Easier When You're Smoking Blunts Rolled in $1,000 Bills)" We're sick of you endorsing regular season hockey players. We're sick and fucking tired of you and your GM, George McPhee, continuing to bloat the egos of your young, regular-season oriented, defense-allergic players with huge fucking contracts they don't deserve. Stop telling us you're "locking up the core of your franchise." You eliminated the hunger from these young charges and you are reaping the fucking rewards.
We're sick and fucking tired of you, Ted. You can't teach old dogs new tricks. How the hell were a bunch of finesse, soft and offensive-oriented players like Backstrom and Semin (who need to be traded IMMEDIATELY), Fehr, Bradley, Green, Shultz, Alzner and Carlson all of the sudden going play defense-first, hard-nosed playoff hockey? They weren't. Watching Ovechkin sacrifice his body while assholes like Semin and Backstrom float around the top of the circles, waiting for a blast? Get the fuck out of here. Taking bad penalties, turning the puck over in the defensive zone? I've seen midget teams play more inspired. Fehr, Bradley, Shultz and Alzner couldn't clog up a toilet if their lives depended on it, never the less clog up a neutral zone. NICE FUCKING LINEUP THERE, TED.
Enough, Ted. Take your blog and shove it up your ass. Take your snarky ass replies to local press who criticize you on your obviously idiotic personnel decisions and put them in your piehole. Ted, ever heard the phrase "If you sit down at a poker table and can't find the sucker, you're the sucker?" Yeah, and if you can't realize that Ernie Grunfeld is not the future of the Wizards, YOU are the Grade-A, bonafide moron, not those who call you on your stupidity. What an uninspired pile of shit you dropped on us for 2011. Tampa, who BARELY, BARELY squeaked by a depleted Pittsburgh team without its two best players somehow looks UNSTOPPABLE because they're playing a soft team like the Caps?
Fuck you, Ted. We're sick and fucking tired of your "be patient" attitude towards McPhee and Bruce. Steve fucking Yzerman is in his first fucking year as GM of the Lightning and they're about to be eight wins away from a Cup. How is it that a franchise in complete and utter disarray one season ago is about to play in the conference semis? Oh that's right, running into a Washington team made for the regular season. But they're doing things the "right" way, folks.
Can't believe I'm about to say this. Fire McPhee, lean towards firing Bruce and hire the first fucking assistant GM available out of Detroit. Obviously Jimmy Devellano has a better eye for future GM talent than you do.
Screw you, Ted. You make me fucking sick. The Crapitals are back, baby!
-
Also note, one of the players said "the coaches laid out the game plan, we didn't execute." THIS FALLS SOLELY ON MCPHEE!!!!!
-
Oh and Ted, take your apologies and shove the up your fucking ass. You apologize for spilling beer on someone or for stepping on their toe. There is nothing to apologize for in this year's playoff fiasco. You built this team, you enabled McPhee to put together this soft fucking roster and YOU hired the coach. Nothing to apologize for. Accept responsibility and put your money where your fucking mouth is.
I totally expect Ted to be a pussy and break out more "be patient, we're doing things the right way" takes.
Fuck you, Ted.
-
Backstrom will stay, having just signed that expensive long term contract.
He's kindof the NHL whipping boy (and i mean that literally. teams love picking on him), and is one concussion away from low value, but I liked the way his game progressed this year. Might be too much of a poster boy to get rid of, but if they did i wouldn't be cryin at all.
Erskine. Please keep this guy. He adds much needed toughness and spark to this team. He stepped up this year with the guts and fists. And pretty much negates the need to keep a roster spot for some loser like DJ King. How many times did he dress this year? 10?
Who gives a fuck? Whole lotta fighting in the playoffs.
I'm honestly shocked that Varly didn't get the start last night. After 3 straight losses and back to back games, you got to make a change. Bad move Bruce.
You're kidding, right? Mike was the only guy keeping the Caps in Game 3.
Not talking about game 3...game 4.
And don't be so angry. Bad for you health and spirit.
-
So what I'm reading here is the the Caps are a bunch of pussies for the most part....right?
At least when they had their annual post-season choke when I was a season ticket holder, they went down fighting....literally. Their talent could not quite match their heart in those days.
-
Dear Ted Leonsis:
Ted, ever heard the phrase "If you sit down at a poker table and can't find the sucker, you're the sucker?" Yeah, and if you can't realize that Ernie Grunfeld is not the future of the Wizards, YOU are the Grade-A, bonafide moron, not those who call you on your stupidity. that's...pretty much what i would write if i was a caps fan
not really too hopeful with ted at the reigns of the wizards, who i do root for

note the title of this thread. hard to believe, but there is more to the playoffs than the caps so the thread will remain relevant beyond last night's elimination.
We'll see who watches a Tampa Bay-San Jose final, and more importantly, who's the first to complain about "all these expansion teams ruining hockey for the True North"....
But it is good to see TMUL is taking the elimination in stride...
-

i've never made that complaint. FYI, those expansion teams ARE true north:
TB: 17 out of 27 players are canadian (63%), including all goalies, the captain and 1 assistant captain.
SJ: 18 out of 29 players are canadian (62%), including the captain and all A's.
TB-SJ would make for a lackluster final IMO because TB's game is effective but relatively boring. VAN-PHL would be my pick, if i had one.
-
must suck to be a DC fan
-
already watched tb play 11 playoff games. i'd rather watch them than boston any day

...
With that mentality why don't we just have a Redwings v 'some team from the other conference' final every year?
Just put the wankees straight into the world series while we're at it?
-
In Scotland they can just have Celtic and Rang.....oh wait, never mind
In Spain..Barca and Real Ma.....SHIT! This is harder than I thought!!
;D
-
in england they have manusa and chels...dammit
-
I wouldn't mind a SJ/TB final. Let's see if SJ can actually score in a brothel with a fist full of hundreds.

I'm not gonna listen to that but I'm gonna give Buccigross a pass anyway. Used to read him a lot when I was younger and he always pimped good indie bands who deserved the exposure.
Tonight's game was incredible. Both teams playing like it was the last game of their lives in the 2nd period. Wings totally blew the Sharks off the ice in the 3rd. Looking forward to Thursday.

Stop posting about pussy sports in the NHL playoffs thread. Thanks.

since we don't have a game to watch tonight, i give you this: the funniest NHL fight ever, featuring wayne gretzky and don cherry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbw6WVs-lCQ
that sh*t cracks me up every time i watch it. love the grapes!
-
so is tonight's game 7 on Versus? i have Fios at home and when i checked last night all they had listed was cage fighting*. i've just tried using my DVR's online interface to set the game to record, and still no listing for hockey.
* i know, i know, "that IS hockey"... yuck yuck...
-
versus at 9
aka too late for me to see the end of
-
versus at 9
yeah, i'm just out of sorts because the TV Gods won't list the game. they would have me believe that extreme cage fighting will be on Versus at 9 tonight.
-
versus/the nhl have been god awful about keeping their schedules up to date and sensible. i watched 3 or 4 of the pens first round games on the computer while nhl network had no games on. the announcement of game 7 in the same series came so late it was insane
hopefully the ne tv contract next year sorts all of this out. its supposed to mean every playoff game is on national tv, and more regular season games too
and yes versus is the worst network ever if you take the nhl away
-
I don't normally root for the Wings, but just to prolong the story of great San Jose disintegrations, I'd love to see it...
-
so, y'all ready for this?
this has been a great series so far. here's to hoping that the canucks pull out their usual at-home Jekyll and not the Hyde that has broken out every time they played at TD garden.
this game has been the only thing on my mind today. let's go!
-
Whoever said momentum doesn't matter in sports probably covers the NFL. When you're the Canucks and you play like absolute dogshit away from home in the finals, you're just ripe for a fucking in a home Game 7. Nice job waiting for the last minute to flip the switch, you worthless pieces of shit.
Fuck you, #1. Hope you get run over by a bus on your way out from GM Place.
-
Those Canucks are sore losers......................eh?
-
What's with the rioting in Vancouver? I always think of Canadians as a docile lot. Eh.
-
Montreal rioted when they beat us last year, and when they beat the Penguins in the 2nd round.
Those fuckers love hockey.
-
Those are the French Canadians. They are just angry in general.
-
If there was ever a riot worthy loss this was it. I'm loath to support any team from Boston, but after their piss poor showing in so many of these games the Canucks sure weren't worthy of it.
-
Stupid canucks.....the English wrote the book on sports riots.
You never destroy your own city, you only riot at away games..........win or lose!!! ;D

Caps get a 1st and 2nd rounder from Colorado for Varlamov. Talk about getting FLEECED.
This situation has played out just about as well as it possibly could have.

So much for his going back to Russia. He signed an hour after he was traded.
