since the 20 locations where this travelling electronic festival will take place haven't been named, i didn't know in which flavor of JA this belonged so it got its own thread.
overall pretty damn commercial but a few interesting acts in there. i'd go as long as ticket prices aren't stupid.

Whoa, sounds boss. Kinda. Better than the "Hard" tour.
-
Ain't nothing cutting edge about Pretty Lights, The Disco Biscuits or Rusko's brand of brostep.
Although, it could be worse. At least it's not PVD, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten (or however you spell it), Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox.
Edit2: kind of sad to see DJ Shadow so low on that bill.
-

you'll have to go to NYC for that... ;D (http://www.madeevent.com/ElectricZoo/)
-
*sigh* I remember 'Big Top' at Capital Ballroom (aka Nation)... anyone remember that? As I recall it was
Eat Static
Way Out West
Moby
System 7
who else was on the bill?

Hahahaha gross.
-
How about the NASA Rave New World tour 1993
Moby, Aphex Twin, Orbital and Vapourspace.
Game set match to moi
-
Ouch. That is not a lineup that can sustain a 20 city tour of the big sheds. I bet it doesn't make it past 2 dates before being cancelled.
1. There's a reason the vast majority of clubs/venues these acts play don't look like movie theaters.
2. Many of the acts are already appearing at festivals like DEMF, Mutek, Starscape, and Electric Daisy Carnival (that is now in 5 different cities this year) that have more going for them.
3. An August afternoon with Booka Shade might be cool by a pool in South Beach or Ibiza. Houston or Kansas City corporate sponsored shed? ... Fuuuuck you
-
Tours like this are the future of shed events. There are fewer and fewer individual bands that are able to fill up venues that big anymore so Ticketmaster Live Nation will rely on packages like "Identity" to try and draw bigger crowds. It's just a matter of time until the Pitchfork/Windish "Best New Music" tour. Pretty sure someone suggested this would happen in one of the many Ticketmaster/Live Nation merger threads.
-
Dj Shadow, Crystal Method, Pete Tong, and Booka Shade would be pretty cool.
But fuck no to Steve Aoki, Skrillex, Disco Biscuits, and Rusko.
interesting tour to say the least.
-
Rusko did a great mix for Fabric, but another CD he did for Mixmag was just utter garbage.
wish Fake Blood and Boys Noize would come to DC in the near future
I'm kicking myself for missing the 2ManyDJ's (9:30 show) in 2007
-
The rave can never die.
-

i'd add modeselektor & holy ghost to the list of acts i'd be excited to see, and in the "give'em a chance" category i've got kaskade, erol alkan and aeroplane.
skrillex is only playing on date, apparently, so should you end up at one of these shows you only have a 5% chance of having him subjected to you :)
-
Aeroplane is only one guy, now.
The duo set at U St. Music Hall had its moments.
-
first date announced: sept 3 in SF.
Although, it could be worse. At least it's not PVD, Tiesto, Ferry Corsten (or however you spell it), Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox.
you'll have to go to NYC for that... ;D (http://www.madeevent.com/ElectricZoo/)
Hahahaha gross.
in their defense, they've just added a Plastikman live set & a Hawtin DJ set. then again, they've predictably enough added infected mushroom, so it all evens out.
-
Thursday August 18: Washington DC
-
Plastikman live is arguably one of the greatest electronic acts I've ever seen.
-
where would that show be at in d.c.?
i was really wishing it would be at merriweather. i loooooooooove that place.
oh well.
-
venues haven't been released, only cities.
who says it won't be at MPP? i've seen more than one "washington dc" show at MPP.
if it is in the district proper, i wonder where they would hold this. dc armory? a university arena? outdoors would be preferable, something like bull run, but not sure where they could do this inside the district. RFK is too big - maybe a university football stadium?
-
If it's a "traveling festival" I'd aim for MPP, I don't see how they couldn't get a good crowd with this line-up. There's something for everyone in every spectrum of dance music.
-
well...the obvious place for this, in terms of ambience & location...
Jiffy Lube Live!
-
right, but the question is how many people are that into dance music that they're willing to pay & trek out to this thing.
also, the "something for everyone in every spectrum" isn't always such a great approach. it means that the two or three acts you're really into are diluted by a whole lotta crap. and as a EDM fan it pains me to say this, but crappy dance music is way worse than crappy rock music.
well...the obvious place for this, in terms of ambience & location...
Jiffy Lube Live!
wow. hater.
but seriously, if the show is in bristow i predict a very low turnout. people go to JLL despite the venue. i don't think this "festival" has the pull to overcome how crappy that venue is.
-
I figured this reeked of a TM/LN production.

Starscape Festical sold out last year at Fort Armistead Park in Baltimore. That's a mostly DNB/Trance/Dubstep festival. I wanna say it was around 14-15 thousand people? And still huge crowds trying to get in. With pop music going the way it is and the mainstreaming of other electronic acts the music is only getting more and more popular. I think there would be a lot of people who WOULD go to this festival. On the other hand, Rusko isn't as popular as Nickelback, so I hear that, but we'll see where it ends up at.

If my Seth-lator is working properly, I think he means that he would book it at MPP if he could.

Yeah, but Starscape is an annual event for something like 13 years growing outta the underground. It's got the history and character. It can go all night into the morning. Most sheds have curfews.
Plus, let's face it this is much better...

So is it "all ages" or "16+"?
-
I lol'd at that.
-
Also, the mere fact that the site has Kaskade, Pretty Lights, Rusko, and Steve Aoki billed over DJ Shadow makes a point about who they're trying to market this thing to. Pass.
Unless they announce Plastikman live. Then holy shit.

agreed, but if they billed shadow first they wouldn't be booking the same size venues. dj shadow can barely sell out the 1,200 person 930 club... all those other cheeseballs bring in the masses ::)
-
I know, that's the unfortunate part :(
-
Unless they announce Plastikman live. Then holy shit.
they are still claiming "more to be announced", so there is hope :)
i'm not up on my club-crap, but are any of those names headliners that can top a festival? is kaskade really that big?

There mere fact that these people have sold out giant venues across the globe.
That little, mere fact.
I'm not saying DJ Shadow doesn't deserve to be billed higher, I fucking love DJ Shadow, but cmon.
-
Edit2: kind of sad to see DJ Shadow so low on that bill.
Agreed.
:(
-
There mere fact that these people have sold out giant venues across the globe.
The size of venues that people play at in other countries doesn't necessarily translate to the size of venues they play in the U.S.
Maybe my perspective is skewed, but I would've thought that DJ Shadow is bigger than Kaskade, Pretty Lights, and Rusko both in the U.S. and abroad.

True... but Starscape is a good bit cheaper than I imagine the Identity festival is going to be, and has fewer big names.
EDITED TO ADD: Although looking at the Starscape site (http://www.starscapefestival.com/mainstage.cfm), they have some names that are perhaps bigger than I expected: Bassnectar, Lotus, Infected Mushroom, Rabbit in the Moon, Daedelus [sic], and Identity overlapper Steve Aoki. And it's $75!!! Somehow I thought Starscape was waaaaaay less expensive.

None of them can top a festival like Ultra or Coachella, but I guess given the "type" of acts that are being booked, those are fine. I mean, alot of them appeal to same demographic, so I can see this thing selling pretty well with what they have going for them.
Plastikman would be an expensive ad but well worth the price of admission alone. It wouldnt blend well though.

personally i'd rather see Carl Craig, Model 500 or Aux 88 live than Plastikman...
-
I'd love to see all of them too, but Hawtin's Plastikman performance was out of the world at Coachella. I have to see that again.

Unfortunately probably not right now. Dubstep is a giant fucking cancer and every/any artist is being gobbled up by the rave kids. Like I said, it's unfortunate, but right now these people will probably attract the most fans. I'm not saying Rusko is better or even more talented, that's just the state of the dance music scene.
-
well...the obvious place for this, in terms of ambience & location...
Jiffy Lube Live!
ding ding ding... confirmed.
i'm out.
-
Gross! I was very disappointed when I opened that email. Ugh.
-
Did neither of you see that coming?
-
was it a possibility? yeah, sure. does it make sense? why not.
but there are many other venues they could have hit up. it wasn't a guarantee. if you start bitching that you "knew this all along", i'm going up there and slapping you sillier.

Seth rarely speculates on this board for myriad reasons, mostly professional. If he didn't already know it was booked at JLL then he most likely would not have posted the above. It's like the Hey Seth (http://www.930.com/forum/index.php?topic=13036.0) thread. If you suggest that he book a particular act and he responds with something like "That's a great idea" then you can rest assured that he's booked it. Until the contract is signed, mum's the word.
-
Yup. That was the deal closer for me.

Oh, and BTW: No more tailgating at Jiffy Lube Live (http://www2.insidenova.com/news/2011/may/14/3/no-more-tailgating-jiffy-lube-live-ar-1039612/)
Police say that the parking lots won?t open for the May 21 WMZQFest until 3 p.m. and the gates won?t open until 4 p.m. ? an hour and a half later than usual.
Fans, particularly ?Parrotheads? who flock to Jimmy Buffett shows, have flooded Jiffy Lube Live?s Facebook page with complaints. They?ve even started a Facebook page of their own called ?Boycott Jiffy Lube Live Tailgating Policy.?
Since 2009, four people have died in drunken driving crashes following concerts at Jiffy Lube Live.

So pissed. I paid 60 fucking dollars.
-
so, who went to this train wreck? any redeeming qualities? how full/empty was it?
Ouch. That is not a lineup that can sustain a 20 city tour of the big sheds. I bet it doesn't make it past 2 dates before being cancelled.
it's still chuggin' along
Tours like this are the future of shed events. There are fewer and fewer individual bands that are able to fill up venues that big anymore so Ticketmaster Live Nation will rely on packages like "Identity" to try and draw bigger crowds.
my edit: there are fewer and fewer individual bands that are able to fill up venues that big at current prices. as long as TM/LN believe that $80+ for a shed show is acceptable, they're going to have to stack the lineup to get people to come.
-
Yeah, prices have gotten absurdly out of hand, too.
Pretty sure we're approaching the peak of what the market will stand if we haven't already hit it.
-
Probably half full.
highlights.
