Title: Live Comedy thread
Post by: reggie on August 05, 2011, 08:53:35 am
Last night I saw John Mulaney at the DC Improv, he absolutely killed it.
I highly recommend checking him out this weekend.
Easily one of the top 5 touring stand-ups at the moment.

I am debating on going to see JB Smoove (Leon from Curb Your Enthusiasm) in a few weeks.

I saw JB Smoove a while back at Improv and it was a great show. Also, Richard Lewis is playing on the 19th

Richard Lewis is about as funny as a visit to the proctologist. (imo)

I just don't get how a whiney NY jewish bloke name dropping other alleged NY celebs is funny...You should move to Boca Raton and you'd die laughing.

I saw John Mulaney too... he was great.  And the bespectacled black dude who preceded him was pretty funny too... wish I could remember his name.

My four year old daughter is funnier than any comedian I've ever seen. Any I don't have to pay to see her. Unless you count feeding and clothing her.

I think it was Seaton Smith, he was pretty solid for an opener.

Comedy Central (IIRC) had one of his standup shows on a while back.  Funny but he does push the "gay joke" boundaries.

you mean he hides the fact that he's gay . . . but constantly having to "shove in" anti-gay material?

Tosh.0 is a very pro gay shows.  Granted, he's definitely hiding it, but he even wears gay marriage shirts on the show.

srsly? His stand-up > tosh.0

That's why I never really liked tosh.0 because his stand up was so much better.

Jim Jeffries.  End of story.  I've never laughed so hard at material I knew I shouldn't find funny in my life.  He's not a shock comedian, he's just offensive.

His most recent commonwealth DVD is FINALLY being broadcast in the US on Showtime.  Search for "Alcoholocaust (http://www.sho.com/site/movies/movie.do?seriesid=0&seasonid=0&episodeid=139334)"....

For those with HBO, his older one is still sometimes broadcast.  It's called "I Swear to God."

Alcoholocaust is the name of a bar in one of William Gibson's old books...

He's not even funny. He's just some lowbrow piece of shit with a mic in his face who likes to talk like an asshole. He's like a short season Class A farm team compared to a major league legend of blue humor like the late Robert Schimmel. At least Schimmel was intelligent. You can't tell if Jeffries has anymore than a few synapses firing at the same time.

It must seriously be a Beltway thing to like Jim Jeffries because if we really wanted to, we could all still live in our hometowns and hit up the shitty fucking bars that are packed with degenerates like Jeffries and then we'd hate him because tards like him are a dime a dozen.

Well there you have it.  A TMUL rant - I don't think anything qualifies as a more ringing endorsement on this board.

I like the hypocrite comment.  I use it a lot.  But I thought this take on religion was better:

As far as I'm concerned, the devil's being a bigger person...

EDIT: Nevermind, that clip stops at Panda's and cuts off the rest of the segment, and this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsCNJgxJv30) picks up about 90 seconds later.
