These band are no better or worse than the onslaught of crap (White Stripes, The Strokes, Arcade Fire) that they tried to feed us last decade.

They are so much worse.
-
Their name bothers me.

I guess some people don't like popular bands. I am guessing they tried to be popular in high school and were shunned now so now they hate all the popular bands.
the article can't be serious. Mumford and Sons and Lumineers are not from the american south. give it up and go back to listening to grimes. Who cancels every show she announces.

She didn't cancel at Uhall... I think...

me i'm going back to listening to "lousy" music that not enough other people listen to... Oh what's this a new Madness record cool.... Oh wait solo album by the drummer in the Coral, even cooler...
-
I rather like most of the bands listed in this thread. I don't know many of the bands Kosmo talks about, but I check them out when I get a chance.
-
How can you take anything serious with the first sentence like this:
"OOOHHH BOY! Let's go down to that music festival
and listen to dat der bango"
What is a bango? :)
Bango (cannabis), a type of marijuana
Bango (fish), a species of fish
Pangu?"Bango" is the Korean pronunciation of Pengu, the creator in Chinese myth.
Bango plc, a supplier of mobile web payment and analytic products
Bango (music) is a music style popular at the East African Coast that fuses traditional Portuguese, Arabic influenced taarab music and local coastal bantu languages
Bango (mascot), the mascot of the National Basketball Association's Milwaukee Bucks

so are all these bands the spawn of Dexys Midnight Runners?

so are all these bands the spawn of Dexys Midnight Runners?
There were a lot of bands in the UK who wore suspenders back then. For example, the Joboxers. And even Bananaramma wore suspenders during their first or second album.

I don't really care one way or the other about these types of bands. I will say that I've heard MUCH worse on the radio.
But that article (can you call it that?) is beyond shit.
That one song "home" by the american idol guy is pretty damn catchy though.

But did they wear suspenders AND a belt?

Oh come on Dexy's were there first and they were the biggest... everyone has seen the Come On Eileen video. (Bananarama got bigger later but once they ditched the suspenders and hooked up with Stock Aiken and Waterman)
I'm glad to see the resurgence of Dexy's Midnight Runners... a band I am truly fond of (not just fond of)

people who are critics . . . and write for ______ sources, are very jealous people. they can only dream of being artists instead of just a person who digests a product and then shits out a response. don't listen to them. don't value judgement from strangers. who the fuck are they?
-
you think what the lumineers and mumford and sons are going through is bad . . . check these hijinxs out. i find the following article and the fact that this really happened, to be funny.

i think mumford and sons and lumineers are overjoyed. they have a huge fanbase and they are playing big venues and I am sure they don't care about what some guy who has some crappy blog that no one reads has to say about them. Everytime someone is successful there will be jealousy. The indie rock thing has died as bands kept getting worse and worse and now the americana thing is what is big. Sucks for those of us that like it but the bands out now are top notch. I am sure in 4 or 5 years the genre will start to lose popularity as the bands that come out won't be as good. Then in another 2 or 3 years people will move on to the next big thing.

As a longtime fan of Americana, I can say there's much better Americana out there than Mumford or the Lumineers. Search beyond the flavor of the month.
-
Mumford and the Lumineers are "Americana" now?
-
He said it, not me.
Does "Americana influenced pop" work better for you?

Just checkin... next thing you know they'll be calling it Alternative Country.

Actually Mumford and Sons are considered "Indie Rock" by their own label - Universal Music UK...

calling it indie music is almost as idiotic
indie music last year accounted for 32.6% of all sales... not very indie if you ask me!
-
I'm just amused by the fact that a major label is flogging "indie rock".... Which is now made even more generic of a term... Most leading "indie rock" groups probably use the same bookers, management and PR firms as those signed to major labels. The only difference is the size of the label, which is probably distributed by a major label affiliated outfit anyways. Some of the leading lights of indie rock are now signed to majors, because their indie labels could only take their careers so far... i.e. Decemberists, Death Cab for Cutie, Black Keys.
Far more attention needs to be placed on real indie labels or independently release material.

no alt-country is the worst genre of music filled with crappy bands like wilco and drive by truckers.

I think the term indie rock is used to describe music that decends from bands like orange juice and aztec camera and later the bands on the nme c86 compilitation and later the smiths.

If only more indie rock sounded like Scottish Pop, then the world would be better place. Sadly, the beast that is now Indie Rock encompasses more than the UK indie labels of the past.

i love the fact, imo, and maybe i am wrong, but i just love that we had the moment where rap blended with heavy rock giving us such gems as 311, papa roach, limp biscuit, korn (who are not bad up until their last two or so albums), linkin park, etc..., as a thing, a time that was there and is now gone. i wasn't a fan of the era. now i feel it has reared its ugly head again--i remember i spoke of this before somewhere around here--in the fact that rap music has blended with indie music. pitchfork is always putting out rap artist props, and that stupid wutang 2.0 band who love making us well aware that anti gay is still alive and well among the genre. i just don't like rap music, like i don't like country. both are not music to me. the whole indie as a crossover medium, is just as bad as when country music was used by taylor swift to become a femine bombshell gabillionaire.

The difference is I don't go around trashing critics and saying don't listen to them, they don't know anything while being one at the same time....
This fits you to a T:
Hypocrisy is the state of promoting or administering virtues, moral or religious beliefs, principles, etc., that one does not actually have and is also guilty of violating. Hypocrisy often involves the deception of others and thus can be considered a kind of lie.
-
the difference between me and a critic, is that i don't expect anybody to read it and take it seriously . . . that is why i post it on this forum.
-
Would you two just have sex and get it over with....

I never got how pitchfork hates main stream rock but loves main stream rap.

To the young white liberal "journalist", black people can do no wrong.
