Don't, talk about coldplay, like that. God, it makes me mad, that so many people hate them, and make it a point to voice how much they hate them.
Perhaps a more diplomatic way people should put it is "overrated". Is that more palatable?
Who is actually rating them so highly? Critics, who rate albums, have given their last three albums combined metascores of 65,61, and 60. Hardly the definition of "overrated". Unless they are actually worse than that.
they are...worse than that

In 2000, I spent four days driving around Scotland by myself. It was a great, beautiful trip and after buying 'Parachutes' at a gas station (for like 25 bucks!), I must have listened to it a hundred times. I'll always ride hard for that record. I love the songs and I loved the updated Edge guitar that was all over the songs.
I think the problem with Coldplay is they moved away from (what I thought to be) their primary strength: the guitar. Every song on Parachutes had a cool guitar part to it. After that record, the focus became Chris Martin's voice and piano, and then they became Just Another Big Band. And that's a shame.

I'll agree with that. Parachutes is really, really great. Rush of Blood is still mostly OK. Everything after that cratered fast, and I agree, the move from "actual ensemble with guitars" to "the Chris Martin piano bombast hour" is the cause.

way back when, i took a date to a coldplay show. really good seats. she turned out to be a total basket case... what a waste of a good ticket. i've hated coldplay ever since.

I actually only know one Coldplay song, from the Boyhood soundtrack.
I do have a good friend, who calls himself, ggw who once got so high that he imagined the Gwyneth Paltrow was hitting on him.

Walkie...Coldplay Fans Wanted For Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show (http://www.cbs58.com/story/31001178/coldplay-fans-wanted-for-super-bowl-50-halftime-show)
Why because the people actually in the stadium all can't stand them?
Be of sound physical health and capable of vigorous physical activity without assistance, including walking long distances and the ability to run onto & off of the field as directed without stopping (really, we mean run). There will be no exceptions made to this rule. The ability to run quickly is an essential function of your participation and a requirement for safety. If you are not able to run, it poses a serious safety risk to both you and to other Fan Participants

Yes, blame the band an not your poor taste in women up until you got lucky and met your wife in a very vulnerable state.

Coldplay stink. I saw them three times at HFS events back in the day. They went from an opening slot at the HFSmas Nutcracker in 2001 to headlining it in 2002. Both times I was not enthused. Nickelback was at the 2001 one and I thought they had the better show!
Then I saw them at an HFStival and they put on a slightly better show. A lightning storm was going on outside of the city and it made it cooler(?). But so many other bands killed it that day (Social D, Foo Fighters, NY Dolls, Billy Idol etc) to make their performance negligible.

I was at that lightning show and it was pretty good. I don't mind them at all. Here is my video of them doing a tribute to REM, so you guys can hate them some more

Yes it does! I had no idea who Nickelback really was at that point. I remember the bass drum had a pot leaf on it and Chad Kroeger wore a white t-shirt also with a pot leaf emblazoned on it. I was hoping they would be cool but they sounded like a watered down Seven Mary Three but that was still better than Coldplay at the time haha.

I remember when I thought the same thing

Gotta say that the camera work for Bruno and Beyonce was amazing. Felt like you were right in the middle of them shaking a tailfeather. And the MVP of the entire halftime show was Bruno and his boys' tailor. We were all in awe of those leather suits.
Poor Chris Martin. He just tried SO HARD to be BIG BIG BIG and then Beyonce just steps up and shows him how a star does it. Coldplay needed to bring some RAWK to this, not try and envelope the world with their ethereal love vibes.
-
I'm not a Gaga fan but her anthem completely destroyed everyone in that halftime show, Queen B included.
Why have we not gotten Taylor Swift to headline one of these yet (possibly with Carly Rae and Kesha cameo-ing)?
-

I hate it when singers think they have to sing the national anthem as an audition for American Idol. Subtlety is always the best way to go.

Coldplay recently revealed that they wanted Kylie Minogue to be involved in the song they were going to record with David Bowie. The idea was rejected by Bowie, who said "'It's not a very good song, is it?".

An Open Letter to Coldplay by Danny Goffey aka drummer from supergrass
-
^ that's the good stuff!!
Had to actually post the content
may be making a donation to the APCS
To Coldplay and advertising team.
As a educated and angry chimpanzee, I am writing this open letter on behalf of PETA and the world's chimpanzee population.
I would like a written apology from the popular band Coldplay for their patronising and derogatory portrayal of us chimpanzees.
The tone of their promotional clip Adventure of a Lifetime shows us in a very bad light and could even lead to undoing all the good work that has been put in place over the last few decades. I can tell you, it's got everyone going bananas in the office.
Quite frankly, the below par CGI effects hark back to the dark days when us chimps were often used as grinning advertising tools for human amusement/erotica.
We chimpanzees are intelligent animals and would never dance around in hats, playing cheap plastic guitars to this type of music. We predominantly prefer jungle.
We would like the editors of this advertising promo to remove these non consenting chimpanzees and replace them with the original singing and dancing human beings that wrote it.
Then we could all impartially judge their art form in its originality.
Yours,
Danny Goffey
Co-founder of APCS
(The Anti Patronisation of Chimpanzees Society)

I guess maybe in Chimpanzeese that grammatical rule doesn't exist, but if he's going to learn to read/write American he should learn the rules. Just sayin'.

Coldplay discover Pink Floyd, share 10 minute prog rock single Coloratura (https://www.loudersound.com/news/coldplay-discover-pink-floyd-share-10-minute-prog-rock-single-coloratura)

I curious is this album carbon neutral
-
we have a thread for this
i actually dug up this thread and was about to post it here, but thought that the "2021 albums" was more appropriate. my main objective was to let folks know the album is coming out, but the secondary/aspirational reason for sharing this info was to get the haterz riled up.

What is there to hate? It’s like parsley…who cares either way?

Parachutes came out right after Kid A. It sounded to me like they were inspired to make the music that Radiohead would make if they wanted to be (stay) a popular guitar band. I thought it was great.
Saw them at 9:30 Club in 2002. Something that struck me was that it was an intimate show that didn’t feel intimate. Some bands make an arena feel small (Bruce) but they made the club seem big. Felt very staged and and kind of sterile.
They worked with Eno after that and I still haven’t had a desire to hear anything else they’ve done. Like I haven’t wanted to listen to U2 post 2005. Or Lenny Kravitz after 1993. Or Stone Temple Pilots after 1994.
-
I'll also defend Parachutes as I think a lot of people on hear have before. It has interesting guitar parts. I actually saw them at their first ever US show (an HFStival) and it was clear they could play to big crowds even though that particular crowd wanted them to get off the stage.
Rush of Blood to the Head is . . . fine. The interesting guitar parts went away but its not a bad record. I saw them for the final time on the X&Y tour because someone who had never seen them wanted to go and it was clear they have lost the thread altogether. But there's an OK song or two on that.
Everything after that is garbage. What I hear off the most recent albums is just straight up embarassing.

Roz Ahmad? Shows you how out of touch these Hollywood elites are . Most people are working at 1pm.

You are correct. I'm very much a fan. I actually booked a Sunday Matinee (2-5) show last June and was told it wouldn't do well because people generally prefer evening shows but it came fairly close to selling out. I also like the idea of a ridiculously early morning show. Attended one in NYC at sunrise on the Williamsburg Bridge about a year and a half ago and a few of us who were there/played went out for breakfast after. I have no clue where something like that could be pulled off in DC, though.
