Real "doth protest too much, methinks" vibes
I almost ended my post with that
but I've just encountered this response so much about my choice in music and just felt the need to get this off my chest

I don't know what it is, but some people here and in my personal life, just live on this line of reasoning
"you like these bands with young girls because you are a creeper"

I know this is a me thing and just need to ignore the haters

but I feel my track record shows I love music of all types.  In the last decade, that taste has favored female fronted/female based bands/songwriters.  For the previous 30 years, I pretty much ignored 98% of female contributions to music in my personal listing
and let me be clear, there is a ton of output by females that is outright garbage and I don't support at all
Also, the best/innovative music typically comes from the young (at least the stuff I like)

But it's never been about 'old dude wanting to creep on young women' vibe for me

Do I love beauty and attractive people,  hell yeah I do
Do I think someone who is willing to get up in front of an audience and perform 10X more attractive, yes I think that is a very attractive trait ...male or female

But I'm there for the performance, the talent, the music, that the performer is hot is near the bottom of my criteria

but I for one am not there to creep

again I realize this is my own insecurity on this topic, but just felt the need to get it out of my brain

and yes I love the last dinner party's first album and it's been on heavy rotation
but I put it on and listen and don't oggle photos of them as to why I like them

Pretty much the same.

All of my "Best of" lists for the last 5+ years have been female dominated. I just think females are putting out the better music these days. If you look at Metacritic and year end critic lists, others seem to think so as well.

Being in an otherwise female household helps too. My daughter pretty much just listens to women singers and my wife pretty much despises all men, so maybe those things influence as well.

That said, there's so much good music out there that nothing makes it into heavy rotation for me for too long. I listened to the last Last Dinner Party album maybe a half dozen times (and liked it a lot), but moved onto other stuff. New album is coming out, I:'ll see how that one goes.

I do notice if an artist (female or male) is visually appealing. To me it adds to the appeal. As Tammy said, After all, I'm just a man,.

I saw Good Flying Birds open for Horsegirl earlier this year...they were pretty catchy.  They played Rhizome a week or two back...I wanted to go, but I couldn't pull it off.  I had already tested my family's limits the last month or so on me leaving every night for a show

This is what we need more of

The BBC are accidentally running the subtitles to Mrs Marple over the Mercury Prize, and it’s rather wonderful. A few of lines could plausibly have been written by Jarvis.

Jarvis has weighed in this mix up

there is also video in the bluesky thread

Good Flying Birds - Talulah's Tape

Because Qobuz pays reviewers my curiosity will occasionally be peaked and with a write up on a new album and when the opening line is "In the swimmable gulf between jangly power pop and straightforward indie rock lies the lo-fi and imminently enjoyable Good Flying Birds" I'm in for a listen...

Likely of interest to some here, they are in fact named after a GBV song, they describe themselves as jangling noisy guitar pop music group based in midwest USA

oh and to set themselves apart from the  full on wave of new bands with jangling guitars out there now, there is the occasional funny sample tossed in

The Anthem

My first time seeing the band and still getting used to the new venue. I felt like I had finally found my tribe, like I was home. Had to leave early to catch the last train 😠
