Sorry, young people are a nuisance because the majority of them could care less about the music.  Except when a hit song is being played they are busy just bopping around, talking during all the songs, busy taking pictures with their camera phones or calling their friendâ??s at home letting them listen to the music.  For the majority of them it is more about being seen than listening to the music.  It is just an annoyance when you are there for the music.

Last, I had bought tickets through the pre-sale and had seats BBB (2nd row) pit.  Show up and it was GA Pit.  Donâ??t really think this was fair considering I thought I had a seat.  Would have procured tickets above the pit so I could sit and see rather than have to be down there with a bunch of annoying teenagers (see above).  Does anyone know when/why they changed the set-up.   This really annoyed me and put a damper on the evening for me.
a few comments. one i am 30 years old, closer to 31. a friend called me on her cell phone during maximo park because i was caught in traffic. i was ecstatic! it was the one band i wanted to see, but unfortunately just didnt make it.

second, since when is morrissey playing smaller venues than the killers? i just saw him last year at radio city music hall and before that over at the apollo. while the apollo isnt as big as the venue of merriweather, over the nights morrissey played radio city (to sold out shows repeatedly) his fan base is still solid! do you think the killers can play 2 weeks or so at the apollo to all sold out shows? yeah, i dont think so. brandon can only wish one day he'll have as much talent as morrissey!

third -- get used to young people at these venues. killers are all over the radio on most stations. i heard them on 3 different stations on the drive to merriweather. ive used cameras/cell phones to take pics as well. im a fan, i enjoy the music and i want memories. i did get a keane setlist, and i was so happy i nearly kissed the sound guy! yeah even at 30 this stuff is as fun as it was when i was seeing shows at 15!

lastly, there were plenty of seats open outside the pit. i was sitting next to a guy in row O (its about 8 rows up), who had a pit bracelet on. he was told by merriweather staff to sit wherever there was an open seat if he didnt wanna be in the pit. so look around next time! and most people who had pit tickets for a killers show, surely wouldnt have been sitting down.

and there had better NOT be seats when i see coldplay in the pit section.

What cracks me up about all of this "young kids" talk is that somehow people have forgotten that they too were young concert goers once and were just as despised by older fans of Van Halen/Nirvana/Love and Rockets/The Clash or whomever you saw as a teen and brag about now.  It used to piss you off too, the lack of respect....

Guess what?  You're getting old.  Haha.

I like having the young kids around, if they are the cool young kids, kind of slumping disaffectedly against the walls and glaring at me.  But these peppy popular kids with their camera phones and active social lives need to go.  I'm always afraid that the girls are going to start rumors about me and what I'm wearing; then I remember that I'm 29.

why is this such a hard fact for people to come to grips with on here?

i know it's a huge shock, but talented/not-mainstream acts play smaller venues and open for popular/mainstream acts which may not be as talented.

could we make that a sticky?

I loved the younger crowd, with lots of chicks too - which is not the case at many shows at the 930 these days...I think it's demographics:  guess who lives in the suburbs with mom and dad (or dad and dad/mom and mom/etc.)?  It's safe, it's close, and those are "their" bands from OC soundtracks/radio/MTV. I had a great time in line with those kids, talking about music and road-trip experiences. I think they look at an old chick like me and think:  "Hey, maybe this is something I can enjoy when I'm 100 too!" Generally speaking, there was little barfing/screaming/falling down...or gang wars...and unlike that crazy teen-zombie filled WHFS festival, the MPP kids seemed to be having a happy, fun-filled evening.

It's a little more than that.  Morrissey prefers more intimate venues because he's been around long enough to appreciate playing two nights to 6,000 people each night rather than 15,000 in one night where as The Killers (and their management) are looking to cash in as quickly as possible before their 15 minutes are up.

...as opposed to expensive private colleges and universities in Baltimore?  Don't know:  Never been spoiled or rich or gone to private school of any kind....
but I have been - and often still am - happy.   :D

i wasn't even at this show, but i love the input you guys are giving.
i'm 14 (15 in less than a month), i go to shows almost every week, and have been show-hopping in the area for a long time.
even i get annoyed when i see lots of young kids at shows.  hypocritical?  maybe, but trust me, you are all perfectly right--it usually means that they are going to sit there on their phones for the entire show.  they are usually only there so they can have a story to tell on monday when they are wearing their hip killers concert tee...
it's really frustrating to be surrounded by that at shows, and i'm glad that i can respect musicians and am not one of "those kids".

if they are going to go to a show because they think the lead singer is hot, then they don't have to be obnoxious about it.  but those people are ALWAYS going to be there, regardless of age.
you either shove away from them, or put your arm around your neighbor and divulge about your latest tanning bed experience.

to all those slamming 14/15 year olds or whatever, i would have loved to have been in a situation when i was 14/15 where i could have gone to concerts semi-frequently, but i didn't manage to go to my first one til i was 16 and i didn't start going to a lot until i was 19.

if i had the opportunity i would be one of those kids now, except obviously move this time frame back to the early 90s rather than now and i think i'd be seeing much better music than the most recent crop of bands to get bigger.

Its easy to knock the youngsters at shows, but hey, teens are teens.  If you go to see the Killers you shouldn't be shocked to see 16-year-olds on cell phones.  I don't go to shows popular with the teen crowd and I've seen some of the most obnoxious behavior from people in their 20s-30s.  Watching a moron talk on a cell phone while an artist is playing is absolutely unbearable, especially when its in front of the stage.  Crowdsurfing and moshing to everything under the sun is retarded.  Drunks are at every show.  The list goes on...
