Killers/Keane Rollcall

I agree that last night was lacking in energy and enthusiasm, but I know the heat was really making most of the performers feel really sick.  They were not prepared for the humidity/heat, having just performed the night before in Central Park/NYC venues where it was in the 60-70's and dry.  
 
 I really loved the "festival" atmosphere - and I think IMP run a fabulous venue.  Lots of food/drink choices, the 932 Club is an oasis of peace for us slightly older rocksters. Security reflects the 930 clubs' attitude of patience and reason over physicality and arrogance, and except for the ATM machines - which were screaming away all night - there  weren't lines anywhere. (NOT COUNTING THE FRICKIN' TRAFFIC...BUT WE ALL SUFFERED THRU THAT). I read the earlier comment about recycling which I agree with; I would have paid $20.00 for a place to wash my hands..but then...I'm a chick!  
 
 What am I missing with Regina Spektor?  I think I could sound better, and dood, I can't sing a rap song...I don't think it was just an "off" night for her either.  I caught her recently on Leno, and was freakin' shocked at how bad she was...Tory Amos on crack?.... Maximo Park was great; I'd definitely see them again.  Louis XIV, Keane, Killers?  Well, yeah, I'd go see any one of them again - but none of them  gave a "best ever" performance. I do believe - except for Keane who may have performed some larger European venues - the stage size/15,000 screaming fans may have caused some "stage fright".  Fun night anyway!  The sound system was awesome.

According to their schedule, they were in Boston the night before, where it was 89 degrees and humid.  The night before that, they were in Providence - 87 degrees.

from the limited exposure i've had to her (one video on subterranean), i think she's a fantastically quirky singer who takes a rather stale female piano singer/songwriter and livens it up with a really unique voice ... plus she's getting the requisite NYC/brooklyn and blogger buzz (i think it's the strokes who are big backers), which is a huge reason why she's getting a shot

I totally agree with everything Kled said.  I was so looking forward to the Killers since I missed the show at the 930 in the fall (procrastination) and have already seen Keane twice there.  I couldn't have been more disappointed in the Killers... just didn't feel it at all. I thought Keane was great.  I obviously disagree with the majority board assessment (hated hot hot heat and numerous other shows the masses have raved about), so what else is new  
 
 And my trip was a breeze - very little traffic at all - but I took a route that was not mentioned from DC. In fact, beat a friend who left atleast an hour ahead of me...   :p

Addendum:  those shows in Boston/Providence/Philly were indoor/i.e. air conditioned venues.

I don't know the venue in Providence, but the BofA Pavilion in Boston is an outdoor covered pavilion like MPP.

 loved keane! seen them twice at the 9:30, and they completely blew the killers away. had great stage presence and seemed to really get the crowd into it.
 
 like nova, missed the killers at 9:30 due to major procrastination and indecision, and cant say i was impressed with them last night.
 
 had fun regardless. but i am not going to merriweather anytime soon based on that traffic nightmare!

realizing it's the long way around but has anyone from NOVA ever gone up to Harpers Ferry going towards Frederick and coming across 70 to 32 for Columbia?  Probably not a time saver but possibly less traffic..
 
 of course i ended up in the "wilds" of northern montgomery county yesterday due to being on the wrong page of my ADC map when plotting the route... not much traffic just took longer   :p

 I know opinions are like a-holes (everyone's got one) but I loved Keane.  Cheesy?  Sure.  But they had passion and filled the room with a lot of energy - which was subsequently sucked right out by the Killers.

I went to this show, was disgusted by the number of kids there, thought I had made a mistake, but then was convinced I was right by Keane's performance. I can't believe anyone would think Killers were stronger than Keane. Brandon Flowers acted like a gigantic tool the entire set; his effiminate melodramatic gestures that coincided w/ the lyrics were especially lame. My favorite part was when he tripped over his mic stand after a queer stride towards the front of the stage. Additionally, the rest of that band was entirely disposable. Poor fuckin stage presence. Keane on the other hand actually appeared to enjoy performing, and less concerned w/ maintaining an image. Tom Chaplin is a vocal superhero, and the three of them together are very cohesive. Fuckin LOVED Keane...

I forgot to mention that I love keyboard players that play and dance at the same time. Both Maximo Park and Keane had keyboard/synth/piano/organ players that completely rocked out.

i knew the teenset was going to be well represented at this show, without it the show would have never been scheduled at Merriweather and instead in a smaller DC venue... Same demographic at the Maroon 5 show.  Parents don't have a problem buying expensive tickets to the "safe" venues.. As Kosmette said the current Killers song is like every third song played on the radio... Outdoor summer shows involving current chart topping acts will draw in the younger set verses say the Pixies which pull in older demographic and not as likely to sellout... do you really want a bunch of youngsters yacking away during "Wave of Mutilation"?

My first post.  I thought the stage would swallow Keane up but they did quite well.  Killers were a disappointment, the stage just seems way to huge for them.  They sounded ok but Brandon Flowers seemed a little tired, sheepish and didnâ??t really know how to work the stage or crowd.  A little over a year ago they were opening up for Morrissey, now they are playing to audiences twice his size.  I really donâ??t think they expected anything near this level of success.  They all just seem like really nice ordinary guys (no big egos, etc) so I hope they can figure out how to shine on a big stage.  
 
 Sorry, young people are a nuisance because the majority of them could care less about the music.  Except when a hit song is being played they are busy just bopping around, talking during all the songs, busy taking pictures with their camera phones or calling their friendâ??s at home letting them listen to the music.  For the majority of them it is more about being seen than listening to the music.  It is just an annoyance when you are there for the music.  
 
 Last, I had bought tickets through the pre-sale and had seats BBB (2nd row) pit.  Show up and it was GA Pit.  Donâ??t really think this was fair considering I thought I had a seat.  Would have procured tickets above the pit so I could sit and see rather than have to be down there with a bunch of annoying teenagers (see above).  Does anyone know when/why they changed the set-up.   This really annoyed me and put a damper on the evening for me.
