After listening to the album, I'm kinda in agreement with you.  I don't think it's bad, but it's certainly not nearly as strong as Know By Heart.

Continuous Hit Music was a poor choice for the opening track I think.  But I very much enjoy Hard To Find.  I'll have to give the album a couple more listens -- perhaps it will grow on me.

I'd get your ears checked.   Grandaddy turned in the dullest album this side of Nada Surf.  Oh and SFA, but I mean shit, they've been off their game for a while.
why thank you for editing my post.  it's nice to know that i can take my music cues from a student at university of maryland, and someone who is obviously the paragon of music taste and knowledge.  nevertheless, i do find the new grandaddy to be quite good and interesting.  this album is quite a step up from "sophtware slump." [/b]
Nah.  Songs about drunken robots vs. an album where the first half all sounds exactly the same?  Not much of a contest.  I brought Sophtware Slump in to work today.  It's still amazing.

TV, Birma and Joe Jackson were all excellent live (shocking, a college student listening to music from before his time) and Ricky Skaggs @ MD I think was last year, but still an excellent show.

Shows:

AmAnSet and Calla (f that first band) at the Black Cat
 Mission Of Burma
The Sea and Cake (they actually rocked)
Spiritualized (I really liked the stripped down set, pure rock and roll fun)
I know there are more, but too many shows this year...

 Albums:
AmAnSet - This did grow on me.  I have to say this is the first one that I find that I had to play loud to really enjoy.  These are more "rock" than the earlier works (I have been into them from the start).

Bardo Pond - Forget the name of their new one, but wow, really cool.  Flows well, noisy, fun album.

The Hidden Hand - This is quite cool, Wino still rocks out well.

 Disappointing Albums:

Blur - It is missing something.
Massive Attack - Again, missing 1/3 it doesn't work well
Radiohead - Back to rock?  Nah, bland songs, nothing that great here.

Am I the only one who thinks Grandaddy sounds awfully like Alan Parsons?

Granted, I've only heard the single, but it was so uninspiring.

Most folks make comparisons to ELO, but I'm so incredibly frightened of Jeff Lynne's hair that I've never listen to any ELO.
