i doubt i'd pay $75.
but i also just went to 2 of the asheville shows.
i've never paid more than $60 for a regular show and i don't really plan to.

im nearly insulted. plenty of us who post on here arent even locals but did live in the area. hell youre not a local to NC and going down there. Why should you hope for the most part its just locals. So its more 'fair' that they get tickets. How about those locals of NC who couldnt get tix because of all the out of towners. Hate to say - its the pumpkins - and if those of us from nearby cities could get tix - im sure we'd go. Just my $.02. and if they play in NYC - I 'hope' its mostly locals who go!

ill hope you really didnt mean to have your post come across that way. after all, plenty of us do what we can to see bands at certain places  :)  at my luck this will be the same night Maximo is playing in NYC and there will be no way in hell im missing that.

I'm not following bnyced0's logic either. I'm sure NYC and Philly are quite pleased when all the fans from DC hike to those cities because bands are choosing to skip the DC area with more and more frequency.

well i dont know if NYC and Philly are more pleased, but one band recently was not happy that they had to leave nyc to go to b'more. might have been shiny toy guns or someone in one of the openers. ive heard this lately from a few bands. that cannot be a good thing for DC. (or surrounding areas).

relax, chica. he just wants better odds at getting tix... i don't think he was saying all people that live in NY smell bad.

Bands don't want to visit here?

Earlier, I asked the question about ticket cost because I have noted that ticket prices in the area (for some shows) have gone up by a few dollars. I provided the example of PS being $25..also, Elvis Costello at $75, Damian Rice at $50 (w/fees, right?). This is Smashing Pumpkins. Sure they are at VFest, but c'mon the price will be higher than $20.
I didn't research other Pumpkins' prices...Is that even a method to calculate anymore? For one, Asheville isn't a great comparison. Shows at the NorVA tend to be cheaper than DC shows.
Perhaps vansmack can answer about CA prices..I have found CA prices to be reasonable.

according to an interview with peel management, a certain number of tickets (20%?) were in fact reserved for locals - TM orders that connected from outside of NC never saw this inventory.

Last time they played here I won tickets from Johnny Riggs the day of the show...  Hopefully it won't be like that if this happens again.  I was second in line at Tower and they sold out before I got mine...  This was before the internet I believe... WAY BACK in... 1999.  :)

  [/b]
i dont know if bands want to visit dc or not. hell i dont know if they wanna visit nyc or not. i only heard one band commenting about going there. then again it was in direct reference to b'more. so maybe they just wanted to party an extra night in nyc is why they didnt wanna go.

and some other band commented on it awhile back in something i read. but i think it was moreso that they didnt enjoy their show because it seemed people werent into it. alas, i cant recall the band.

im sure plenty of bands want to go to nyc, dc and other places in between.

and sweetcell - im not saying no tix were set aside for NC folk. I just remember reading somewhere that obviously some locals who got shut out were pissed. naturally it happens everywhere and to all of us at some point or another. im sure it was just another person whining.

and sal - maybe us new yorkers should come down. at least we'd dance   :D

It varies:  Polyphonic Spree are $22 here ($25 @ 9:30), but Band of Horses is $20 here ($15 at 9:30).  I will say this though, the surcharges are less.  For those two shows I can pay a $2 or $3 surcharge through virtuoso, 9:30/tickets.com service charge is usually around $5.  It's $1 to walk up to those shows and they offer fax ticket services for $2.

Other than the $90 I dropped on tix for the Police, I have been pleasantly surprised by ticket prices in SF.  There are a ton of venues that rarely sell out instantly and I can usually skip paying surcharges by buying at the venues which tend to be on my way (at least the Filmore, BG Civic, GAMH and the Warfield).  The smaller venues (Bottom of the Hill, Cafe du Nord, Slims, Independent) inevitably have tickets available for sale day of and lots of people out front getting rid of extras.

It's not the ticket prices that I enjoy about SF though - it's all the choices I have.  Tons of venues brings tons of bands...

Oh, and the people here don't suck.  The just smell a little.

Gosh all that and I didn't even have to mention 11 nights (!!) with Smashing Pumpkins!  Who are totally playing the 9:30 on July 10, BTW.

True. GAMH, Fillmore, Warfield, Slim's, Bimbo's, Independent, Cafe DuNord, Bottom of the Hill, Rickshaw Stop, Popscene, Hemlock Tavern, Mezzanine, 12 Galaxies, Hotel Utah, Thee Parkside...and the shitty ones: Bill Graham Civic and Concourse.

 I think I hate you   :)

I noted this as well at a few venues in LA. (Not via TM)
