It varies: Polyphonic Spree are $22 here ($25 @ 9:30), but Band of Horses is $20 here ($15 at 9:30). I will say this though, the surcharges are less. For those two shows I can pay a $2 or $3 surcharge through virtuoso, 9:30/tickets.com service charge is usually around $5. It's $1 to walk up to those shows and they offer fax ticket services for $2.
Other than the $90 I dropped on tix for the Police, I have been pleasantly surprised by ticket prices in SF. There are a ton of venues that rarely sell out instantly and I can usually skip paying surcharges by buying at the venues which tend to be on my way (at least the Filmore, BG Civic, GAMH and the Warfield). The smaller venues (Bottom of the Hill, Cafe du Nord, Slims, Independent) inevitably have tickets available for sale day of and lots of people out front getting rid of extras.
It's not the ticket prices that I enjoy about SF though - it's all the choices I have. Tons of venues brings tons of bands...
Oh, and the people here don't suck. The just smell a little.
Gosh all that and I didn't even have to mention 11 nights (!!) with Smashing Pumpkins! Who are totally playing the 9:30 on July 10, BTW.
