Cronkite was one of the last reporters ever on TV.  These douche bags like Geraldo, Oberman, Nancy Grace, and the others do nothing close to reporting news.  They opine, hype, sensationalize, spin, and conjecture to no end.  The whole "fair and balanced" thing that Fox uses is absurd.  Fairness and balance are not properties of news reporting, they are properties of subjective opinions being expressed.  RIP Walter.  You fucking kicked ass at your job like no one else in the profession.

We are deeply saddened to report that some time after 8:00 p.m. last night east coast time, Gordon Waller went into cardiac arrest and was taken to the emergency room. Despite intensive efforts on his behalf by hospital personnel, Gordon passed away early this morning. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

His partner of nearly five decades, Peter Asher, will be issuing a statement shortly. We hope you will join us sending love and condolences to his family.

Always sad when someone dies, but Angela's Ashes wasn't anything special. I still don't know how he won a Pulitzer for that. Most questionable selection in my lifetime.

I like the way he was able to tell a story from a boy's point of view of growing up Irish Catholic, dirt poor, and in Ireland. The stories are similar or spot on from what I have heard from my own family. It was good in my opinion.
