R.I.P. The Mars Volta? Cedric Bixler posted a ton of tweets like this one:

?Thank u 2 all VOLTA fans u deserved more especially after the way u rooted for us on this album. I tried my hardest to keep it going But Bosnian Rainbows was what we all got instead. I can?t sit here and pretend any more. I no longer am a member of Mars Volta. I honestly thank all of you for buying our records and coming to our shows. You guys were a blast to play in front of We could never had done it with out you. My dream was to get us to the point were Jon Theodore and Ikey Owens came back but sadly it?s over?

I know they were a very polarizing band. But I came of age to these guys and their one and only Washington DC show at 9:30 Club in 2003 was one of my favorite concerts ever.

first three albums plus the live one . . . awesome.  moving.  the voice of another world.

latest music . . . not very good.  saw this coming.

Actually I thought the exact opposite.  I did not care for their CDs but really enjoyed the one time I saw them live.

Had no idea what I was getting into when I first saw them and I thought they were great. This was right around the time when Francis the Mute came out.

Second time I saw them (at RML) they were just a wall of sound.  Nowhere near as enjoyable as that first show.

First two albums and the live ep are all I ever go back to at this point and even then a lot of stuff gets skipped.

The Devil's Blood 2007-2013

I'm sure not a whole lot of folks on here have heard of them but they were pretty cool and were growing in notoriety. Very sudden break up, as they still had concerts scheduled.

Ed Koch.

I once saw him in tears leaving the movie The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover with his boyfriend.

Reg Presley of The Troggs.

Glad that I got to see them many years ago.

yah..I just heard too... a big bummer... although I don't know I was entirely cognizant of the fact he was still alive..

Horace Silver is still alive although may not be fully there.. who else? Butch Warren in DC (was an unheralded sideman on a lot of legendary dates including Dexter Gordon's GO)....
