I'm almost clearly mostly fine, except for being a gin neophyte.
What would be a good starter gin and a low calorie mixer for the uninitiated?
Full disclosure: I purchased a bottle of Bombay Sapphire once about seven years ago and I've never been a vodka fan, to the chagrin of my more Russian family members.

A lot of your luxury premade tonic waters like Q Prime or Fever-Tree don't get into the Diet field (although Fever Tree has a "lower" calorie option).

What you want is to make your own. Jack rudy makes an amazing run of tonic syrups that you mix with regular water and is fantastic. These products never leave my home bar.

The Bowman Brothers' distillery in Fredericksburg has some small batch one-off gins for sale onsite and some of them are borderline amazing.

The James River Distillery in Richmond has multiple gins and 2 of the 3 are really, really solid.

Green Hat in DC deserves some local gin love too.
